Job Description :

The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

Daily operate and maintain all County owned and operated water and wastewater treatment facilities and conducts daily inspections of all treatment systems to insure proper operation. Performs routine and exceptional maintenance on all equipment required to insure satisfactory operation.

Performs the installation, maintenance, repair and operation of water and wastewater systems as assigned, ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations

Troubleshoots systems to determine proper corrective actions to ensure public safety as it relates to the Utilities department equipment.

As required, collects, analyzes, records and reports water and wastewater system sample parameters. Makes recommendations for corrective actions to Supervisor of Plant Operations..

Daily maintains operation and maintenance records, reports and files in accordance with State and Federal requirements and daily operating procedures. Record Biological loading to DMRs

Daily determines the type and quantity of equipment, materials and supplies needed for assigned operations and projects; prepares cost estimates; orders and ensures the proper maintenance of equipment, supplies, tools and materials; coordinates the use of available equipment for maximum utility and convenience

Regularly coordinates and supervises maintenance repairs with subordinates and contractor; provides contracted operators with all available as-built information on systems as required.

Maintain proper level of plant treatment by adjusting chemical rates as required.

Conduct tours for the general public, schools, and County staffs as necessary.

Monitors and records reading s from meters, gauges and other instruments. Calibrate Lab equipment.

Regularly oversee the training of subordinates/junior personnel such as Water/Wastewater Plant Operator I.

Researches and prepares specifications for purchase orders for equipment and materials. Monitors and maintains materials and equipment inventory for jobs to be resolved in house.

Periodically coordinates new connections to County owned water and sewer systems. Evaluates County water / sewer systems and service needs, and assists in formulating plans to meet those needs in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Routinely performs sewer inspections to determine and ensure compliance with all County regulations and standards. Inspects systems, projects and operations for compliance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, contracts, permits, and standards of quality and safety; gives technical advice and assistance to co-workers and subordinates.

Determines and adds chemical dosages to properly treat water/wastewater; treats and disposes of sludge.

Regularly performs routine housekeeping to include, but not limited to building maintenance, grass cutting, general site maintenance, etc.

Periodically assists in the preparation of engineering plans, estimates, specifications and maps for utility projects. Assists in coordinating assigned activities and functions with those of other County divisions, departments, municipalities and outside agencies as appropriate.

Regularly participates in the Department's on-call system for provided operation and maintenance services after hours, during holidays and on the weekends.

Performs general administrative / clerical work as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, answering the telephone, entering and retrieving computer data, etc.

Attends meetings, training, seminars, etc., as appropriate to maintain knowledge of current legislation, trends and technology in public utilities operations and administration

Routinely performs other duties and assignments as required.

* Considered essential employee in the event of inclement weather or emergency conditions.

Compensation Range: $23.92 - $38.24
