About Our Organization Founded in 1968, the Studio Museum in Harlem is the nexus for artists of African descent locally, nationally, and internationally and for work that has been inspired and influenced by Black culture. It is a site for the dynamic exchange of ideas about art and society. Job Summary The Senior Manager of Membership & Annual Giving is responsible for developing, managing, and executing a comprehensive and integrated membership and annual giving program. The Senior Manager will establish strategic objectives and implement short-and long-term tactics, including direct mail, email, social, web, and advertising, that leverage the Studio Museum's brand and mission. The selected candidate will effectively grow awareness of the Studio Museum's annual giving program, develop, and implement a bespoke membership program, and increase our portfolio of donors as we enter this exciting next phase in the institution's history, with the opening of our new Museum building in fall 2025. This position reports to the Director of Individual Giving, works directly and indirectly with all Development team members, as well as across all Museum departments as necessary. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Establish and execute strategic vision for the Studio Museum's mission driven membership program through the opening of the Museum's new building.
  • Strategize and manage membership renewals, upgrade, and acquisition campaigns to increase the Studio Museum's membership base, monitoring progress against goals and providing timely reports.
  • Ensure delivery of membership benefits across membership levels.
Membership and Annual Giving Marketing and Communications:
  • With the Director of Individual Giving and Marketing & Communications Department, develop a calendar and strategy for direct mail and digital marketing efforts.
  • Work with the direct mail consultant to oversee all production needs; manage internal data sources and suppressions; list purchases/exchange selection and management; draft copy with support of supervisor; request design needs; work with mail house on regular match-back reporting.
  • In collaboration with the Marketing Department and Membership & Annual Giving Coordinator create a robust digital strategy; including annual fund and membership campaigns; paid and organic social media campaigns; remarketing across channels; and opportunities for A/B testing.
  • Regularly write fresh copy and content to use across channels.
  • With Membership & Annual Giving Coordinator develop special Member content for Studio magazine.
Data Analysis and Strategy Development:
  • Build framework for a customer journey utilizing marketing tools and automation set up in CRM around engagements with the Museum, incentive testing, renewals and reinstatements. Complete a funnel analysis of all marketing channel efforts to refine campaigns.
  • Create analytic reports on each campaign (direct mail and marketing, A/B test, paid social, etc.). Provide YTD revenue and channel analysis, and reforecast membership and annual fund projections quarterly.
Benefits, Execution, and Administration:
  • Create and implement an annual calendar of Member events and programming.
  • Work with Associate Director of Corporate Partnerships to identify opportunities for membership event sponsorship.
  • Oversee gift entry and batch approvals to CRM.
  • Ensure regular and consistent data hygiene in CRM including NCOA updates and data appends.
  • Track area expense budget against projections and oversee invoicing process.
  • Assist with the set up and implementation of Tessitura and all related marketing tools for the team area.
  • Work with Membership and Annual Giving Coordinator to plan and implement lively and engaging member activities - previews, special member days/hours, behind the scenes, and other activities designed to encourage growth in membership.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Individual Giving, supervise the Membership and Annual Giving Coordinator, creating a mentoring environment through clear communications and setting of expectations.
  • Discretely handle proprietary, sensitive and confidential information as it relates to Museum donors and their contributions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
  • High attention to detail and dedication to quality control is required to successfully execute this role.
  • Excellent research, writing, and organizational skills with strong follow through are required.
  • Proven project management and multi-tasking skills and ability to work independently, proactively, collaboratively, and effectively under pressure with a wide variety of colleagues and external partners and stakeholders.
  • Ability to understand and effectively articulate the mission and future plans of the Studio Museum in Harlem.
  • Strategic and creative thinker and problem solver who can clearly articulate ideas, frame challenges, highlight opportunities, and offer solutions.
  • High level of tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed to attend relevant events and meet deadlines.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or 4 - 8 years of equivalent experience in a related field.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in membership, annual fundraising, and events planning and execution.
  • Excellent listening, verbal and written communications skills, skilled at integrating donor centric messaging into fundraising materials and working with marketing.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills, using data to inform planning and decision making.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience with customer relationship management software, Tessitura is preferred.

  • This position is an exempt position and may require working in excess of forty (40) hours during a work week and/or on weekends.
  • Fast-paced environment with varying levels of guests and employees present.

Compensation $75,000 - $85,000 annually Salary is commensurate with experience within the guidelines of a small not-for-profit.
