Primary Purpose:

The Director of Communications serves as the visionary leader of Longview ISD's strategic marketing and communication efforts. This position is responsible for crafting and executing comprehensive marketing and public relations strategies that elevate the district's brand, build community trust, and enhance public awareness of Longview ISD's mission, vision, and achievements. The Director will create systems and processes that anticipate future communication needs, ensuring proactive, engaging, and consistent messaging across all platforms. This role demands a forward-thinking strategist who not only excels in communication technologies but can also mentor and empower the team to execute the district's marketing and communication initiatives at the highest level.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Master's Degree preferred in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field, OR equivalent experience

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Strategic Vision: Proven ability to develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive, multi-channel marketing and communication strategies.

Advanced Technical Proficiency: Expertise in graphic design, web content management, video production, and drone technology, with the ability to train and mentor others in these skills.

AI and Content Generation: Demonstrated experience with AI tools for content curation, prompt engineering, and high-volume content production.

Marketing Acumen: Deep understanding of digital marketing, social media strategy, SEO, and brand management, with the ability to track and analyze engagement metrics.

Leadership and Delegation: Exceptional leadership abilities, capable of training, supervising, and inspiring a team while effectively delegating tasks.

Vendor Management: Skilled in managing relationships with external creative firms and vendors, providing clear guidance, expectations, and feedback.

Communication Excellence: Superior writing, editing, public speaking, and presentation skills with the ability to craft clear and compelling messages.

Project Management: Strong organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple large-scale projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines consistently

Experience:

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in communications, marketing, or public relations, with at least two years in a supervisory capacity

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Develop and lead the execution of a district-wide marketing and communication strategy that promotes Longview ISD's brand, initiatives, and educational programs.

2. Serve as the primary architect of district messaging, ensuring all communications are aligned with Longview ISD's mission and vision.

3. Manage and optimize the district's web and social media presence, ensuring consistent, engaging, and up-to-date content across all platforms.

4. Train and mentor district staff in the use of AI tools, content management systems, and communication best practices to enhance efficiency and creativity.

5. Collaborate with department heads to ensure seamless integration of communication strategies across all district initiatives and programs.

6. Build relationships with media outlets, ensuring positive media coverage and timely responses to inquiries.

7. Coordinate with vendors and external agencies to develop marketing materials, advertisements, and video productions, maintaining quality control and brand consistency.

8. Provide regular analytics reports to district leadership on communication performance, engagement metrics, and ROI for marketing initiatives.

9. Actively participate in crisis communication planning and response, ensuring clear, accurate, and timely messaging during emergencies.

10. Lead the development of district publications, newsletters, and media releases, ensuring all materials reflect the district's brand and goals.

11. Support the Community Relations team in promoting and publicizing district events, ensuring alignment with the broader communication strategy.

12. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging communication trends, technologies, and best practices to keep Longview ISD's communication efforts at the forefront of innovation.

13. Engage in continuous professional development to enhance communication and marketing expertise.
