This is an onsite position at our R&D site in Sunnyvale, Ca.Scope and Objectives:The R&D Lab supports Applied Materials most advanced semiconductor machines including supporting equipment and facilities infrastructure.The position is an Ultra Pure Water Systems Engineer supporting tool installs, new factory upgrades, and site infrastructure. This includes pulling together new machine technical facility requirements, SOWs, cost analysis, quality parameters, projected durations, safety requirements, and resourcing requirements.Ultra Pure Water Systems EngineerRequires specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise. Interprets internal or external business issues and recommends best practices. Solves complex problems; takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions. Works independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations. May lead functional teams or projects.Job Description:
  • Responsible for overseeing the maintenance, operation, repairs, and planning of the facilities process to ensure maximum safety and building uptime
  • Technically lead in the design, construction, and operation of critical utilities systems such as clean utilities (purified water, WFI, clean steam, etc.), waste treatment, compressed air, vacuum, PCW, Scrubbed Exhaust and other facility systems.
  • Review and provide written comments on design plans and specifications prepared by others.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and develop innovative solutions to meet specific client needs.
  • Responsible for planning, implementing, and maintaining the infrastructure and equipment of buildings and facilities.
  • Conduct engineering assessments, develop plans, and provide guidance on the selection and implementation of equipment and systems for facility and utility improvements.
  • Analyze engineering data and develop reports, presentations, and recommendations for facilities system improvement.
  • Perform analyses of facility management and operational processes, resource allocation, energy use, and safety processes, and suggest improvement proposals to optimize efficiencies.
  • Prepare training documents and operational SOPs pertaining to facility and utility processes andequipment.
  • Partner with the Reliability Engineering and Maintenance groups to develop process improvements to gain efficiencies in terms of equipment uptime and reliability.
  • Interact with 3rd party IFM providers to ensure proper proposals, designs, installation, design documentation, operations, and maintenance of process system and applicable controls systems
Functional Knowledge:
  • Demonstrates in-depth and/or breadth of expertise in own discipline and broad knowledge of other disciplines within the function (i.e. mechanical, chemical, controls, etc.)
  • Identify and conceptually scope safety, compliance, capacity, redundancy, and cost savings projects
  • Knowledge of local Fire, Building, and Environmental codes
  • Experience with MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, AutoCAD, SCADA (e.g. GE Cimplicity), and CMMS (e.g.IBM Maximo)
Business Expertise:
  • 5+ years working experience as a facilities engineer in semiconductor or similar industry
  • Must possess at least four (4) years of experience in water systems, waste treatment, boilers, scrubbed exhaust and controlled temperature system.
  • Experience in automation systems such as BMS or PLC for facility systems operation is a plus
Leadership:
  • Leads projects and teams with notable risk and complexity to achieve milestones and objectives
  • Excellent at multi-tasking, able to respond promptly to issues, and effectively and quickly restore facilities systems
  • Develops strategy for project execution
Problem Solving:
  • Perform problem solving, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis
  • Solves complex problems with broad impact on the business; requires conceptual and innovative thinking to develop solutions
Impact:
  • Impacts the direction and resource allocation for IFM management
  • Contributes to the development of functional strategy
Interpersonal Skills:
  • Coordinate with multiple groups (planning, construction, safety, maintenance service provider, building owners, management, etc.) to minimize facility or system downtime and business interruptions
  • Communicates complex ideas, anticipates potential objections and persuades others, often at senior levels, to adopt a different point of view
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Mechanical, Chemical or Environmental. A Master's degree in these fields or a related field is highly desirable.
  • Industrial, Manufacturing and Research and Development experience preferred in facilities engineering
  • Experience with safety devices in terms of installation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the building process, engineering, and construction principles.
  • Strong knowledge of Critical Utility Systems in the semiconductor industry including Water treatment, UPW, Scrubbed Exhaust, Process Cooling Water, Heating Hot Water, Chilled Water, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in fluid, fast-paced situations, with the personal leadership to influence and positively motivate self and peers.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
