**Responsibilities:**
+ Verify required information and records in the medical record and computerized scheduling system to ensure accuracy before scheduling appointments.
+ Schedule, coordinate, and reschedule patient appointments, ensuring that necessary messages are relayed to staff and providers in a timely manner.
+ Greet and register patients in a friendly, prompt, and helpful manner, providing any necessary instructions and directions for their visit.
+ Inform the appropriate department or person of the patient's arrival, ensuring that check-in and check-out functions are performed correctly.
+ Maintain a clean and organized waiting area, including the beverage station and reading materials, to enhance the patient experience.
+ Prepare patient charts in advance of upcoming appointments, ensuring all necessary documentation is ready for the visit.
+ Answer the phone, screen calls, take messages, and provide information to patients and staff in a courteous and professional manner.
+ Keep the physician's schedules updated, ensuring patients are scheduled properly and appointments are confirmed to avoid any conflicts or delays.
+ Complete necessary paperwork such as encounter forms and referrals, and use the computer system to generate information needed for billing purposes.
+ Address any patient inquiries related to appointments, testing, or procedures, providing accurate and helpful information.
+ Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures, ensuring that all tasks are performed in accordance with company standards.
+ Maintain strict confidentiality with respect to medical records and sensitive patient information.
+ Use the automated financial management system effectively to schedule appointments, verify patient information, enter charges, collect co-payments, and reconcile payments.
Required:
+ High school diploma or GED
+ 1 year work experience, preferably in a medical office setting
Preferred:
+ Knowledge of medical terminology
+ Electronic Medical Records experience
+ Word processing and computer experience
+ Insurance companies/prior authorization experience
