The Department of Health Services is seeking a Psychiatric Social Worker to work in their Hauppauge Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) Clinic.Shift: Tuesday - Saturday 6:00am-2:00pm Benefits For You Now And Your Future

  • Interviews patients at the Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) in order to complete evaluations to determine service needs;
  • Refers patients whose needs cannot be met by the program to an appropriate agency equipped to address patient needs;
  • Provides direct psychotherapy to patients of the OTP which would include emergency services when warranted;
  • Performs casework and case management services with patients, relatives and collateral persons; or refers to available resources;
  • Confers with relatives, collateral contacts and community agencies in order to best service patients at the OTP;
  • Is part of a multi-disciplinary team, which may include Psychiatrists, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, Psychologists and other treatment professionals; participates in case conferences and staff meetings to discuss, diagnose and appropriately treat patients.
*This position does not offer relocation assistance at this time**Sponsorship is not available for this role**Remote work is not available for this roleSalary: $54,392 Shift: Tuesday - Saturday 6:00am-2:00pm OPEN COMPETITIVEGraduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Master's Degree in Social WorkNECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Certification as Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) by the New York State Department of Education must be maintained throughout employment in this title.NYS Motor Vehicle License Requirement:At the time of appointment, and during employment in this title, employees will be required to possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS:
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, methods and practices of psychiatric social work
  • Thorough knowledge of the functioning of mental hygiene out-patient services
  • Thorough knowledge of the social and psychological aspects of mental disease, mental retardation, developmental disabilities, chemical dependency and of modern treatment methods
  • Good knowledge of community resources and how to use them effectively
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with patients, colleagues, patients' families, physicians and social agencies
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive case work and treatment records
  • Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to analyze information and reach sound conclusions
