Skills and Competencies

* A minimum of 2-3 years' experience in communications, public relations, and/or journalism.

* Agency experience preferred, ideally with some background in insurance, supply chains, financial services, or a corporate environment.

* Strong story-telling mindset essential, business-consumer or financial influencer outreach experience a plus.

* Demonstrated ability to formulate and execute near-term and long-range communications strategies.

* Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

* Excellent presentation skills and impactful on-screen presence, able to advise and influence business partners.

* Detail oriented, calm under pressure with strong time management skills, including the ability to handle multiple priorities.

Education

* Undergraduate degree in communications or related discipline.

Responsibilities

At Moody's we are bold, clear and perceptive. The External Communications Strategist works with the External Communications Team in Global Corporate Affairs, positioning Moody's as a leading provider of insights on risk in the media and other stakeholders, primarily in the US region.

Acting as a business partner to groups within the company, the Strategist contributes to a range of external and internal communications projects that further the team's mission to be a strategic partner driving Moody's thought leadership and enhancing its brand and reputation.

The Communications Strategist primarily supports the execution of media outreach strategies to help achieve business goals, developing and refining communications tactics and materials.

* Responsible for strategic planning and promoting Moody's thought leadership and/or marketing messages to the media; develops key message documents, Q&As, PR plans.

* Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets.

* Proactively pitch story ideas, Moody's spokesperson commentary, and thought leadership research to relevant media contacts; identify opportunities for media interviews, earned speaking engagements, and other media-related activities.

* Respond to media inquiries promptly and effectively, ensuring accurate and positive coverage.

* Monitoring, analyzing and reporting on resulting coverage.

* Supports and executes relevant US and global communications campaigns.

* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align communication efforts with marketing, branding, public relations, and investor relations activities.

* Occasional weekend/out of hours cover for media relations inbox/phone line is required.

About the Team

The External Communications Strategist will sit within Global Corporate Affairs Team as an integral part of Moody's Shared Services, the branch of Moody's responsible for providing professional services to support the success of our global MIS & MA businesses in one of the following departments:

For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $78,500-$113,750, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation. Moody's also offers a competitive benefits package, including not but limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employee and company contribution opportunities, life, disability, and accident insurance, a discounted employee stock purchase plan, and tuition reimbursement.
