UPMC Hamot is hiring a full-time Nurse Midwife to support Great Lakes Physician Practice (GLPP) Women's Health in Jamestown, NY. This position will join a rapidly growing OBGYN office with 7 Physicians and 3 APPs and will work in both an outpatient and hospital settings.

Purpose:Provides comprehensive primary health care to a select population of essentially healthy women. Participates in the care of women with medical complications in collaboration with obstetricians/gynecologists.Responsibilities:

  • Perform accurate history and physical examinations on essentially healthy women, order and interpret diagnostic tests, diagnose problems, and manage minor problems and illnesses.
  • Provide primary care in an ambulatory setting to women: preconception care, prenatal care, labor and delivery management, postpartum care, normal newborn care, well-woman gynecology, family planning, counseling in health promotion, maintenance and disease prevention.
  • Participate in research and continuing education activities.
  • Instruct and supervise nursing and medical personnel.
  • Follow the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.
  • Identify deviations from normal and consults, co-manages or refers as appropriate.
  • Provide individualized educational opportunities for students including mentoring, supervision and evaluation.
  • Provide individualized client teaching and counseling utilizing the nurse midwifery philosophy.

Special Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.
  • Good clinical judgment.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of acceptable standards of practice.
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.

Graduate of an approved CNM program is required, MSN preferred.

The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the patients served as specified below. They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.

This position is dependent upon successful attainment and maintenance of hospital privileges, if applicable to the Business Unit practice.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:Must be eligible for licensure. CPR certification required. National certification, eligible for licensure by Pennsylvania board of nursing, eligible for certification as a CNM by Pennsylvania state board of nursing PR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) OR Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Midwife
  • Registered Nurse (RN)

*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
