Position Purpose:

This position provides instruction in Communication, program and curriculum development, advising and mentoring of students, and marketing and recruitment for the communication program as assigned by the Chair of the English, Communication, and Theatre Arts Department. This is a full-time position with full-time benefits package.

Responsibilities:

* Teaches Communication courses as needed and directed by the Chair of the ECTA Department.

* Prepares course materials including syllabi, assignments, projects, and tests.

* Evaluates student work and assigns grades.

* Sponsors the department's communication honor society and supports other departmental student activities.

* Serves a leading role in the curriculum, program assessment, marketing, recruitment, and advising for the Communication program.

* Serves as an advisor for students in the Communication program.

* Mentors students involved in research.

* Provides leadership for student internships and job opportunities including maintaining and establishing contacts in business and industry.

* Participates in campus activities and serves on faculty and institutional committees as assigned.

* Perform administrative duties as assigned.

* Actively pursue scholarly and academic research activities.

* The position will have an expectation of a Ph.D. in Communication (or a related area) or a willingness to pursue a Ph.D.

* Actively integrate and model Christian faith in academic content, teaching, and work with students and colleagues.

* Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education-

* Master's degree in Communication (or a closely related area) required.

* Ph.D. in Communication (or a closely related area) preferred or a willingness to pursue a Ph.D. degree.

Experience-

Appropriate successful experience in the workplace or in a classroom that will lead to successful university-level teaching and mentoring in an acceptable subset of the following areas:

* Successful teaching experience in Communication at the high school and/or university levels.

* Successful student-friendly advising and mentoring experience at the high school or university level.

* Familiarity with higher education, curriculum planning, course development, best teaching and administrative practice, learning management systems.

Special Position Requirements:

* Ability to communicate professionally with a diverse constituency both on and off-campus

* Ability to communicate with and mentor students in the Communication program.

* Ability to provide a leading role in the maintenance and growth of the current Communication program and the development of additional Communication programs.
