Plant Operations Manager
Summary
Our client, a venture funded, sustainable aviation fuel development company based out of Salt Lake City, Utah has engaged GForce Life Sciences to identify a Plant Operations Manager. Their novel, one-of-a kind technology, allows them to harness energy from biomass and convert it to superior performance aviation fuel. They are a passionate and creative group of engineers, scientists, and visionaries who have since been focused on aviation fuels, with the purpose of creating a sustainable planet, reducing global carbon emissions, and ultimately combatting climate change.
We are seeking a Plant Operations Manager for our client. The role requires outstanding organizational, communication, and leadership skills and an ability to develop innovative solutions. The Plant Operations Manager will work closely with executives to strategize and develop long-term plans that usher in new levels of productivity and success for the company.
This position is highly visible and plays an integral role on their operations team. Directs and oversees operational policies, objectives, financials/budgets, and initiatives. Responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, and improving the operational functions of the Operational Demonstration Plant while maintaining effective and efficient service to customers with a focus on quality, productivity, safety, loss prevention and employee relations. Responsible for evaluating current and proposed systems and procedures and determining and implementing changes as necessary. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks that revolve around the entire operation. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
Duties / Expectations of Role
· Collaborate with senior managers in the development of performance goals and long-term operational plans.
· Maximize efficiency and productivity through extensive process analysis and interdepartmental collaboration.
· Set strategic goals for operational efficiency and increased productivity.
· Analyze current operational processes and performance, recommending solutions for improvement where necessary.
· Develop, implement, and monitor day-to-day operational systems and processes to provide visibility into the goals, progress, and obstacles of key initiatives.
· Draw on relationships with department heads, external partners, and vendors to make decisions regarding operational activity and strategic goals.
· Plan, monitor, and analyze key metrics for day-to-day operations to ensure efficient and timely completion of tasks.
· Develops and maintains operations business plans to include all customer/company requirements, labor hours, equipment, facility costs, and human resource decisions to enable organization to reach goals.
· Establishes, monitors, and maintains productivity and quality standards, develops budget and cost controls, and focuses on continuous improvement of the operation.
· Devise strategies for ensuring the growth of programs enterprise-wide and implement process improvements to maximize output and minimize costs.
· Ensures operational procedures are followed for activities such as verification of incoming and outgoing shipments, handling disposition of materials, and keeping warehouse inventory current.
· Reviews operating reports, identifies and directs the resolution of operational and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
· Responsible for financial analysis and aggressive management of operational expenses; manages, the facility P&L.
· Monitors activities of work teams to ensure safe practices are in place and are being followed at all times.
· Supervisory responsibilities as designated, trains and ensures all assigned employees are aware of and comply with company, government, and customer policies, procedures, and regulations.
· Monitor building to ensure proper housekeeping is being practiced. Give guidance on safety and security issues, and interface with management on all issues.
· Adhere to the company's policies and standards and ensure that laws and regulations are being followed.
· Work closely with Human Resources to lead the team with integrity and to establish and maintain a trusting, inclusive, and productive environment.
Mandatory Requirements
· Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or a related field
· 7 to 15 years' experience in plant management (petrochemical or industrial biotechnology fields) desired or a similar leadership role in a manufacturing environment.
· Proven ability to plan and manage operational processes for maximum efficiency and productivity.
· Superior knowledge of multiple operational functions and principles, including finance, customer service, production, and employee management.
· Strong working knowledge of industry regulations and legal guidelines.
· Previous experience in developing budgets and business plans.
· Experience creating a high-trust, high-performance, team culture.
· Demonstrated leadership and people-management skills.
Preferred Requirements
· Advanced certification in Plant Management or Operations is preferred.
· Experience in implementing Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies is desired.
· Ideal candidates with a background in biorefinery, petroleum, or chemical industries are highly desired.
· Previous experience managing operations and personnel is desired.
· Prior experience and/or knowledge of handling flammable chemicals is preferred.

Salary range $95k-$130k
