Field Service Technician - Heavy Construction EquipmentContractors Sales Company, Inc. is growing! We're the Capital District's premier heavy construction equipment dealership - headquartered in Albany, NY, in business for over 100 years and seeking an experienced Field Service Technician to join our team.The ideal candidate will have in-depth product knowledge and experience to effectively diagnose, troubleshoot and repair heavy construction equipment - including but not limited to mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems on excavators, wheel loaders, drill rigs, portable crushing and screening plants, hydraulic breakers and road wideners. Qualified candidates will analyze and resolve problems in the field independently, and in a safe, timely, and professional manner - providing exceptional service and performing high-quality repairs.We provide our team members competitive pay, tool and clothing allowances, 401k match and profit sharing, premier health insurance with minimal out of pocket expenses, paid time off and personal time.Pay: Starts at $39 per hour, depending on experience. This is a union position with the Local 158 Operating Engineers. Work Hours: Monday - Friday, Day Shift, Field work with overtime opportunitiesJob Type: Full-TimeRelocation Assistance: Available to candidates who move for this opportunityJob ResponsibilitiesEssential duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Diagnosing, repairing, cleaning, reconditioning and maintaining customer and company equipment and components in the field
  • Effective troubleshooting and diagnosis of complex technical problems independently - identifying problems and cause of failure through logical troubleshooting steps
  • Removing, disassembling, assembling, and installing components and parts - ensuring proper performance and compliance with manufacturer specifications
  • Documenting and reporting work performed to service management
  • Completing service calls (emergency or routine) that occur in addition to work schedule
  • Performing related duties as assigned
Job Requirements / Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the technical diagnosis, repair and maintenance of heavy equipment
  • Previous Field Technician experience required
  • Experience with Link-Belt, Hitachi, Kawasaki, Sandvik and/or Anaconda heavy equipment preferred
  • Diploma from a heavy equipment repair trade school preferred
  • Prior experience rebuilding diesel engines, transmissions and hydraulic pumps
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex after treatment exhaust systems
  • Ability to be self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented and meet deadlines without direct supervision
  • Effective listener and communicator with diverse groups of people including leadership, team members and customers
  • Must have own full set of tools
  • Stays current with trends in heavy equipment
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
Work Environment
  • Requires daily travel and work in the field. Occasional work in a shop environment.
  • Exposure to hazardous materials, outdoor weather conditions and will work near moving and rotating machinery daily.
Physical & Mental Demands
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to operate a service vehicle
  • Perform extensive standing, walking, bending, stooping and use of hands
  • Frequent talking, hearing, kneeling, crouching and crawling
  • Utilize the tools, machinery and testing equipment required for all duties
  • Effectively work with laptop diagnostic tools and use other computer programs
  • Effectively read, understand and utilize technical manuals, hydraulic and electrical schematics
  • Effectively complete tasks in a noisy environment
  • Effectively apply established protocols in a timely manner
