The anticipated hiring range for this position is $160,000 to $175,000. Hiring offers will be determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience. POSITION SUMMARY
The Dean - Liberal Arts and Food Studies, provides overall operational and strategic leadership for the School. This position spearheads the educational vision/objectives and supervises the faculty teaching within liberal arts and food studies undergraduate and graduate curricula. The Dean is also responsible for collaborating with faculty in order to assure curricular integrity and rigor, monitor student learning outcomes, maintain operational effectiveness and fiscal responsibility, promote the development of research and scholarship, and act as an effective ambassador to advance the interests of the School, both internally and externally.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
* Work with faculty across the campuses to oversee curriculum development within liberal arts and Applied Food Studies at both the undergraduate and graduate levels that maintains rigor, currency, and attention to emerging trends.
* Collaborate with faculty to ensure high quality delivery of academic programming and services and maintain qualified, passionate, and motivated staff.
* Facilitate an academic environment supportive of faculty engagement in scholarship, research activity, and other forms of professional and pedagogical development.
* Cultivate external support and collaboration for faculty scholarship and research activity.
* Oversee educational performance, retention, and effectiveness assessment to foster student success and ensure that high academic quality and standards are maintained.
* Collaborate with faculty and the Director of Assessment and Accreditation to engage in a robust and meaningful learning outcomes assessment process.
* Develop strategies to facilitate the recruitment, advancement and retention of high-quality faculty.
* Recruit, hire, orient and support adjunct faculty in collaboration with relevant discipline area faculty.
* Collaborate with the Admissions Office and the Center for Career and Academic Advising to recruit high caliber students with a strong potential for successful completion of academic programs.
* Work with the Center for Career and Academic Advising, Registrar, and Admissions Office to monitor incoming student flow and expectations.
* Assist in the coordination, development and implementation of programs and services that positively impact student retention and success.
* Partner with appropriate staff on all facilities-related issues that support the effectiveness of the student educational experience.
* Partner with the Career Services and Alumni Offices to ensure that students achieve meaningful employment outcomes upon graduation.
* Oversee planning and coordination for the Global Cuisines and Cultures short-term study abroad trips, the college's educational sustainability initiatives, the Farm to Table: Practices of a Sustainable Table bachelor's concentration, and the Master's Program in Sustainable Food Systems.
* Assist with the alignment between CIA branch campuses and Hyde Park with regard to curriculum, educational standards, and the mission and values of the CIA.
* Collaborate with Directors and Associate Deans at CIA branch campuses to ensure academic and operational effectiveness for liberal arts courses offered within the associate degree curricula and the bachelor's concentrations offered at branch campuses.
* Lead the annual budget process for the School, and maintain careful oversight of revenues/expenses and fiscal performance throughout the fiscal year.
* Partner with the Advancement Office to represent the interests of the School, and advocate for its support through grant writing, donor cultivation, and other revenue enhancing activities.
* Cultivate and maintain meaningful relationships outside the college to identify opportunities for collaboration and valuable insights on long term programmatic directions and relevance of the curricula to potential employers of graduates.
* Work with faculty and Academic Affairs staff to ensure that the integration of technology is effective, appropriate, and relevant to classroom and student learning needs.
* Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to identify and implement programs, solutions, curricular development, and practices that promote sustainability.
* Any and all other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
* An earned doctoral degree related to the disciplines taught within food studies, food systems, sustainability, and/or liberal arts.
Experience:
* Demonstrated record of progressive leadership experience at the faculty and/or administrative level within a higher education environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Experience as a program director, department chair or dean at a higher education institution.
* Experience teaching in a higher education environment.
* Record of scholarship and publications/presentations.
* Record of food industry engagement/outreach.
* Experience within a shared governance model.
* Experience with food systems/food studies related organizations and programs.

WORKING CONDITIONS
