School Resource Officer QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma, but prefer Associate Degree
- Good physical condition capable of successfully completing Law Enforcement Medical Examination Report from a physician.
- Must have completed a full-time law enforcement training academy and hold a current law enforcement basic certificate capable of being recognized by State of Mississippi Department of Public Safety.
- Must have completed a minimum of three (3) years of active full-time law enforcement
- Must be capable of performing the duties of a police officer
- Must have completed ALERRT Level I within the past two (2) years or be able to complete within one (1) year
- Must have completed Department of Education mandated training for SRO certification or be willing and able to complete it within two (2) years
REPORTS TO: Superintendent SUPERVISES: None CONTRACT: At-Will JOB GOAL: To provide for the safety and security of students, staff, community members, and property within Winona-Montgomery Consolidated School District system by planning to prevent safety and security matters and by responding immediately to deal with any disruptions or criminal activity.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To perform all law enforcement responsibilities, differentiating crime from school conduct violations and working with school officials to maintain a safe and orderly school environment for all students, staff, and visitors to our campuses and to develop and enact comprehensive safety plans after conducting thorough risks assessments of properties, procedures, and practices. To report all criminal activities and file written documentation of all incidents, investigate, collect and document evidence, effect arrests if necessary, testify in court and represent WMCSD in official proceedings. Treat everyone with respect and provide for due process of law. Be capable of de-escalating aggressive and volatile situations or performing necessary force to control violent situations. Teach students, staff, parents, and community members about emergency responses during training opportunities. Teach personal safety, bus safety, drug and gang awareness, active shooter, among other subjects. Serve as Incident Commander or ICS Team member during emergencies. Be a community liaison with law enforcement and public safety agencies and members. Be a role model and advocate for students and work with school administrators, teachers, and parents to provide a safe and healthy student body. Provide consulting advice to administrators on plans for safety, emergency preparedness, traffic flow, evacuation, video surveillance, and other safety and security concerns. Provide security at extracurricular activities, including sports held at other locations. Work with administration, social workers, law enforcement, judiciary, and local family and children's service providers when appropriate to report deprived, abused, or neglected children. Work within the chain of command and perform such other duties and tasks as assigned.
