Overview:

Bergmann, an affiliate of Colliers Engineering & Design is looking for a Structural Engineer to join our Northeast Buildings team in our Rochester, NY office.

From complicated industrial design to simple load ratings, Colliers Engineering & Design engineers will ensure your project meets todays safety standards as well as your functional requirements. Our structural engineers are able to design the structural systems for buildings, foundations, and earth retention structures for all types of new construction, additions, and renovations. Our engineers have the knowledge and experience to design projects constructed of steel, timber, reinforced concrete, or masonry.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform engineering calculations with the aid of computer software, spreadsheets, and hand calculations
  • Create structural design plans and details in AutoCAD and Revit
  • Coach and Mentor more junior staff
  • Perform the functions of a Project Engineer
  • Perform site visits, make observations of ongoing construction progress, and survey the structural components of existing buildings
  • Coordinate with architects, owners, and other engineering disciplines
  • Review shop drawings and respond to RFIs
  • Perform QA/QC related tasks
Qualifications:

Who We're Looking For: All candidates should have a minimum a Bachelors degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering from an ABET accredited university and at least 7+ years of professional experience designing buildings.

What You'll Need to Be Successful:

  • AutoCAD (minimum of basic skills; preferably intermediate/advanced)
  • Revit (minimum of basic skills; preferably intermediate/advanced)
  • At minimum a basic (preferably intermediate/advanced) understanding of RISA, RAM, TEKLA, TEDDS, SAFE, PROFIS, etc.
  • A willingness to learn and adapt to new software and client needs
  • Understanding of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood design principles
  • Knowledge of current building and material design codes and standards such as, IBC, ASCE7, AISC360, ACI318, ACI 530, NDS
  • Strong Microsoft Office (Specifically Word and Excel) skills
  • Able to work independently and also collaboratively on a team
  • Strong communication skills
  • Previous internships/co-ops/full-time position in an engineering office setting, materials testing laboratory, and/or construction field highly preferred!
