Position Title: EHS Manager Department/School: Safety & Security Salary/Pay Rate: $75,000 - $85,000 Job Summary: Under the direction of the Director of Safety and Security, the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is primarily responsible for program development, implementation, and management in the following areas: occupational safety, industrial hygiene, laboratory safety, chemical hygiene, environmental compliance; hazardous waste management, and emergency management. The EHS Manager will serve as a subject matter expert on environmental health and safety matters and have a strong understanding of local, state, federal, and international regulatory requirements. The EHS Manager is responsible for building a culture of safety at Marist both locally (at the main campus in Poughkeepsie, New York) and globally. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Compliance, or related field. Valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one. 3 - 5 years of relevant work experience. Lifting Requirements: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Essential Functions: Occupational Safety: Develop and manage occupational safety programs; conduct job hazard assessments; conduct safety inspections and testing; provide occupational safety training; mitigate workplace accidents and injuries via engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment (PPE); conduct accident / injury investigations; ensure regulatory compliance with occupational safety standards. Industrial Hygiene: Develop and manage industrial hygiene programs; conduct indoor air quality (IAQ) surveys; conduct workplace exposure assessments; provide industrial hygiene training; ensure regulatory compliance with industrial hygiene standards. Laboratory Safety: Develop and manage laboratory safety programs; conduct laboratory hazard assessments and maintain related hazard communication; conduct laboratory safety inspections and testing; provide laboratory safety training; conduct laboratory accident / injury investigations; ensure compliance with laboratory safety standards and best practices. Chemical Hygiene: Develop and manage chemical hygiene programs; conduct and maintain annual chemical inventory; conduct chemical compatibility assessments; manage the university online safety data sheet library; ensure proper handling, transport, and storage of chemicals; provide chemical hygiene training. Ensure compliance with chemical hygiene standards and best practices. Environmental Compliance: Develop and manage environmental compliance programs; Conduct air emissions, soil sample, and water quality testing. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations. Hazardous Waste Management: Develop and manage hazardous waste programs (including chemical waste, biowaste, radioactive waste, and controlled substance waste); collect hazardous waste and consolidate compatible waste streams; maintain a hazardous waste inventory; conduct hazardous waste management training; ensure proper disposal of university hazardous waste in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. Emergency Management: Provide administrative and operational assistance with emergency management programs; participate in emergency management training including tabletop and full-scale exercises.
