Certified - Position - Special Education - Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Grades PK-12 Job Number 370####### Start Date Open Date 11/15/2024 Closing Date PRIMARY FUNCTION:This position is responsible for providing instructional and behavioral support to classrooms in the form of staff training, classroom observations, consultation with classroom teams, and direct work with students and staff. The Teacher Specialist must have strong knowledge and experience in the areas of assessment, IEP development, classroom structure, and organizational methods, state (SOLs and A-SOLs) and program adopted curriculum frameworks (ABLLS/Functional Curriculum), instructional content area, positive programming practices, and effective instructional strategies.QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field required.
  • Virginia State Licensure with Special Education Endorsement required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of direct teaching of students with autism, intellectual disabilities, and severe behavior problems. ABA training and experience preferred.
Reports To Principal Duty Days 220 Job Posting Link www.secep.net Salary Range: From/To In the range of $63,300 - $98,800Start Date TBD Endorsements Special Ed. - General Curriculum K-12 Additional Job Information ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and provide staff development training in-services that utilize research-based principles of adult learning, and that are consistent with the identified goals and needs of the program. When observing in the classroom, verify that individual and group needs are accurately assessed and that appropriate instructional methods and materials are utilized to match the abilities and needs of all students. Identifies areas of need and provides programming recommendations for individual student programming needs, teacher needs, and/or overall classroom needs based on the SECEP Skill Competency Checklist. Identifies areas of need and provides direct training to classroom team members using modeling and guided practice techniques regarding student, teacher, and/or classroom needs based on the SECEP Skill Competency Checklist. Uses effective verbal and non-verbal communication techniques and problem-solving skills to foster positive interactions between team members that lead to improved student and staff outcomes.
