You are encouraged to visit the university web page at Application deadline: Open until filled Minimum Starting Salary: $47,000 annuallyCurrently one vacancy and one anticipated vacancy.Summary:The Area Coordinator is a full-time, live-in staff member responsible for providing day-to-day Department of Residence Life functions, administration, management, and staff supervision in a student-centered university-owned campus residential area consisting of Residence Halls, Townhomes, and Apartments, and housing approximately 500-550 residents. Provide regular administrative presence in respective area. The Area Coordinator is responsible for providing direction and leadership for the implementation of Residence Life's student education and engagement programs, services, and operations for our residence hall and apartment communities. The Area Coordinator is also responsible for leading and directing various Residence Life committees and student-focused initiatives. Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Hire, train, and supervise 2 Assistant Resident Directors, 14 Resident Assistants and 6-10 student desk or support staff. Provide leadership in creating recruitment and selection process for student staff members, as well as design and implementation of student staff training and development experiences. Provide leadership and direction regarding student staff employment concerns. Manage all details related to student staff transitions.
  • Provide direction and leadership for the development and implementation of student engagement and student leadership initiatives/programs. Develop and support educational, social, and community building programs and engagement activities which involve and engage residents in their diverse communities. Liaison to academic program stakeholders or managers of campus auxiliary or administrative units located in-area. Provide fiscal oversight/monitoring of Residence Life programmatic budgets for the residential communities. May advise Resident Housing Association or community specific sub-group.
  • Work with the Dean of Students Office regarding the implementation of the student development-based student conduct process. Communicate and interpret department and university policy to staff and students. Keep updated student behavior records through software systems (Maxient, Roompact, StarRez) and ensure staff are following protocol to document issues and upload necessary documents. Conduct judicial meetings with students, administer appropriate sanctions, and conduct timely follow-up with sanctions. Utilize conduct trends within each residential community to determine needed programmatic or service efforts to reduce conduct incidents.
  • Collaborate with Assistant Director of Residence Life - Facilities to assist in managing Residence Life facilities needs of residents (e.g., maintenance work orders, public space preparations, damage assessments, cleaning staff, resolve policy questions, etc.).
  • Collaborate with Assignments Coordinator regarding resident management operations (e.g., initiating and tracking space changes, making resident space assignments, annual room selection and re-selection process, summer conference housing, etc.). Work cooperatively with Residence Life staff in coordinating move-in/move-out processes each term in assigned hall or apartment area. Work with Assignments Coordinator to perform operation functions such as running community rosters and performing audits for no-show or not-enrolled students.
  • Oversee and monitor all Residence Life operational functions for the residential communities, Front Desk operations, as well as partnering on occupancy related issues and summer conferences. Provide leadership and direction for the development and implementation of annual processes such as Move-In, Move-Out, break period closings, and trainings.
  • Provide leadership to various departmental initiatives, committees, or work groups. Serve as the Residence Life liaison to other campus offices and partners. Participate in department, division, and university strategic planning, committees, and special projects.
  • Provide Area Coordinator Team duty coverage for Residence Life, including weekends and holidays. Provide feedback, guidance, and possible solutions to Assistant Resident Directors, Resident Assistants, and Desk Assistants through their duty processes. Manage efforts needed for immediate crisis intervention and follow up. Work with Senior Leadership Team to ensure necessary university partners are involved with addressing an issue and referrals to resources are made. Monitor and respond to daily duty reports to work with staff to follow up on issues.
  • Participate in on-going recruitment of prospective residents by coordinating campus visits/tours, Preview Days, Orientation activities, etc. Assist in developing Residence Life marketing, promotional, and informational materials, etc.
Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Student Development, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Student Affairs, Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Sciences, or closely related field of study. One or more years of Residence Life or other collegiate administrative experience. Knowledge of community and student development principles. Strong supervisory experience and guidance skills. Evening and weekend availability are essential and expected. Residency required in on-site apartment furnished as a condition of the job. Police background check if selected for hire. Preferred Qualifications: Two or more years of experience in Residence Life beyond undergraduate student staff level (ex: 2 years of graduate school or full-time experience). Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Excellent customer service skills and orientation. Strong (positive/effective) communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of community and student development principles. Strong supervisory experience and guidance skills. Demonstrated leadership ability in resolving judicial incidents and roommate conflicts, intervening during crisis and emergency situations, advising and counseling students and student groups, and developing social, educational, and recreational programs and community building activities.
