Substitute Pool ~ Food Service Assistants

Day-to-day Substitute on an on-call as-needed basis

PLEASE NOTE: Upon selection for hire, candidates must complete fingerprinting at their cost.

Substitutes are called on an as-needed basis and there is no guarantee of how many days you will be called.

Food Service Assistants are involved with the preparation and serving of school lunches and/or breakfasts and general cleaning of the kitchen, as well as cashiering and POS (point of sale) during lunch periods. These positions require the ability to work well with co-workers, building staff and students and to work independently and complete tasks in an assigned timeline with limited supervision required. Position involves lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted and prolonged standing.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

* High school diploma or GED (General Education Degree), with prior experience in a volume food service operation and/or a school district food service facility preferred

* General mathematical or cashier knowledge preferred

* Prior food service/computer experience preferred

* Application materials complete and timely

* Valid Washington State Food Handler's Permit

* ASFSA membership desirable

* ASFSA certification desirable

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Knowledge of proper food handling practices and techniques, proper sanitation related to large-scale food preparation.

* Ability to track inventory and order food as needed.

* Knowledge of bulk food preparation adjusting and following standardized recipes.

* Ability to lift and carry food supplies weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.

* Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.

* Ability to follow proper health and safety standards.

* Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff, and maintain a positive attitude.

* Ability to maintain accurate records for USDA requirements.

* Ability to use a computer and access e-mail, send attachments and create and open documents.

* Ability to handle cash receipts, operate point of sale computer terminal.

* Ability to stage and merchandize meals.

* Ability, and willingness, to learn district food preparation and serving practices and procedures, including use of equipment.

* Ability to be a team player, maintaining good working relationships with food service staff, other employees and students.

* Ability to communicate effectively.

* Strong customer service skills.

* Ability to perform repetitive motions, including bending, pushing, pulling, stretching and working with or near machinery and cleaning chemicals.

* Ability to withstand exposure to hot, humid conditions.

* Ability to work flexible hours.

Position Contingent Upon the Following:

* Washington State Patrol and Fingerprint clearance through Superintendent of Public Instruction/FBI

* School board approval

* Valid Washington State Food Handler's Permit/retained for duration of employment

* I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigration Reform Act.

* Proof of Immunization history if born 1/1/57 or later

* HIV/HBV training (within 60 days of hire)

* Sexual Harassment training (within 60 days of hire)

* Valid Washington State Driver's License

Pre-Employment/Post Offer Physical Capacity Testing required to ensure candidates have the necessary physical capacity to safely perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
