Fast growing national chemical company is seeking an experienced Director of Operations to oversee the daily operations of their chemical manufacturing facility in Indianapolis, IN area. Additionally the director will oversee operations at three other facilities located in TN, TX and CA. This critical leadership role will ensure that all production processes across these locations run smoothly, efficiently, and in compliance with quality and safety standards. The Director of Operations will drive continuous improvement initiatives, optimize resource use, and ensure adherence to all relevant regulations.
This is a hands-on position with high visibility and a strong presence throughout the operation. Job reports to the COO. This position is responsible for providing leadership and oversight to achieve our combined goals, drive initiatives, and continue to nurture our customer centric “do what it takes” team culture. Job will require travel to satellite facilities, approximated to be 15-20% of time.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership:
- Oversee the day-to-day manufacturing operations at the IN facility and three satellite locations in TN, TX, and CA.
- Develop and implement operational strategies that align with company's business objectives.
- Regularly visit satellite facilities to assess performance, address challenges, and ensure alignment with corporate goals.
- Provide oversight and support to three satellite facilities, ensuring consistency in operations, quality control, and safety practices across all locations.
- Develop and lead staff by active coaching and training while cultivating a collaborative team culture, creative problem solving, and results driven operations.
Manufacturing
- Implement improved manufacturing processes and management methods to generate higher ROI and workflow optimization.
- Lead the team to establish manufacturing standards for cost control and waste reduction, oversee the design, development, communication and implement best practices.
- Manage the QC process by understanding testing procedures and batch/lot management.
- Ensuring that as the company grows; manufacturing capabilities meet or exceed all industry and customer requirements for cost, quality and responsiveness.
Order Processing
- Demonstrated ability to partner in a cross-functional working environment and coordinate efforts with multiple departments.
- Customer Relationship Management with experience in case resolution.
Project Management
- Complete management of special projects upon requests, and other duties may be assigned.
- Develop capital budgets for operations equipment, and ensure projects are completed in accordance with the timeline.
- Detailed-oriented with ability to oversee projects from origin through execution.
- Participate in strategic planning and business plan development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in chemical manufacturing operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, preferably in the coatings industry.
- Experience with 2 component chemistry in areas of polyurea, polyurethane, polyaspartic or epoxy technology.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills across multiple sites.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities across different locations.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with ERP systems, particularly NetSuite.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements specific to the coatings industry.
- Experience in supply chain management and procurement.
