Overview:
Kingsbridge Heights Community Center (KHCC) is a 49 year old multi-service
not-for-profit organization based on the settlement house model and located in the
Bronx. We provide resources for Bronx residents from cradle to career to advance
education and well-being for a vibrant community. KHCC serves over 5,000 families
annually with an inclusive environment for children with special needs, low-income
families, recent immigrants, survivors of sexual and domestic abuse, and at-risk teens.
KHCC helps participants overcome adversity and develop the skills they need to build
bright futures.
Our College and Career Counselors (JFK and Walton Educational Campuses)
are responsible for working with high school students on developing comprehensive
postsecondary plans. This is accomplished through 1:1 advising, family engagement,
workshops, college and career related trips, and career panels. Each counselor will be
assigned a caseload of students to work with, however, the College Directions team is
responsible for engaging all high school students, with a specific focus on juniors and
seniors.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
● Support all aspects of college and career programming at KHCC's Student
Success Centers (JFK or Walton campus), including outreach and recruitment,
intake and registration, administrative tracking, and supervision of daily college
office visitors and activities/events.
● Provide individual college and career advising for a large caseload of students
(high school students, with a specific focus on Juniors and Seniors) discussing
financial aid options, college choice, the actual application process, and
matriculation.
● Engage students who are more interested in pursuing work or vocational training
around alternative post-secondary pathways and options.
● Plan and implement college and career workshops and events based on grade
level and the post-secondary planning trajectory, i.e. underclassmen vs. juniors
and seniors, all middle/high school age youth, etc.
● Maintain effective and collaborative relationships with the schools that the
Student Success Center supports on each campus.
● Build strong partnerships with community agencies, colleges, college counseling
networks that consistently provide leadership and educational opportunities to
KHCC participants.
● Engage, build relationships with, and provide appropriate behavior management
and supervision for youth via daily activities
● Stay informed about changes and developments in the college access
community, including the statewide CUNY/SUNY system, financial aid and
scholarships, and special programs for low-income students (e.g. EOP, HEOP,
SEEK, etc.)
● Provide task supervision to high school and college-aged peer college
counselors and bridge coaches.
● Support the planning and implementation of college-related trips and events as
needed for both high school and middle school participants depending on the
needs of the campus and partner schools.
● Maintain exceptional data tracking systems for both KHCC and the DOE:
Prepare data for foundation/other funding reports.
Physical Demands:
● While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit;
handle, or feel; talk, hear, smell or taste. On rare occasions it may be necessary to move quickly,
run, etc. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with
hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The
employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25
pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this
job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
