**A Brief Overview**

The Sterile Processing Educator will provide initial and ongoing education programs for the sterile processing staff across the perioperative and interventional regions. Education includes novice training, new hire orientation, and continuing education programs delivered through in-person and online learning platforms.

The sterile processing educator works as a member of the interventional platform education team to provide broad based educational programs to meet the present and future needs of the region. Additional responsibilities include: development of training materials, monitoring of educational compliance with regulatory mandates, program planning, facilitation and development of continuing education and competency based programs.

Understands and supports the continuous performance improvement of provided services to ensure the goals of excellence in clinical outcomes and customer satisfaction. Evaluate new employee skill levels and maintain records of departmental staff proficiency. Assist in communicating policy and procedure changes for sterile processing. Provide on the job training to enable staff to consistently meet and/or exceed personal performance and departmental goals to provide sterile instruments and supplies in an efficient, accurate, and professional manner. Provides input to employee performance appraisals as requested by department manager. Schedules and documents all in-service education, competency evaluations, and new employee orientation. Collaborate with departmental leadership for identification of needs and scheduling of education initiatives.

**What you will do**

+ Demonstrates a thorough working knowledge of the goals, objectives, and functions of the Sterile Processing Department. Must be familiar with operation of decontamination, cleaning and sterilization equipment, policy and procedures, and human resources.

+ Participates in the development and implementation of department performance improvement activities in partnership with regional quality consultants and department leadership.

+ Proactive in developing education program presentations to the skill level and provided learning materials in a form that each employee can understand.

+ Assist in 100% completion of all institutional mandatory regulation review, i.e. JCAHO, HIPPA, safety and infection control.

+ Reviews and updates departmental orientation and competency skills assessments tool and updates on a yearly basis.

+ Collaborates as a member of the interventional platform education department to provide pertinent education to other staff roles

+ Assesses and evaluates impact and effectiveness of process changes on quality and initiatives, plans and programs.

+ Coordinating, training and implementation of SHC SPD training program for novice SPD techs

+ Liaison with sterile processing schools for SPD tech student clinical rotations

+ On-going education of all SPD techs obtaining CRCST certification and CEU

+ Creates and maintenance of staff skills matrix assessment to ensure competencies

+ Evaluates and assess new hires and trainees' work performance

+ Identifies new equipment education needs and collaborates with relevant vendors to train and conduct in-services to SPD staff

+ Documents in-services and employee in-service attendance records

+ Partners with quality consultants for SPD QI projects. Assists and supports the department in maintaining Joint Commission standards

+ Collaborates with the quality consultants and department leaders to ensure regulatory compliance and Survey readiness

+ Supports the SPD management team in reviewing and updating the department's policies and procedures in adherence to SHC

+ Deploys industry's best practices and integrating with organizations such as AAMI, IASCHMM, AORN, and Stanford School of Medicine to create best practices

+ Participates in or leads work groups in special projects as assigned.

+ Responsible for maintaining their own competency for technological advances in informational technology and sterile processing industry standards.

**Education Qualifications**

+ Associate Degree in a related field from an accredited university or college.

+ In lieu of an Associate Degree, candidate with 5 years of progressive education and work experience in Sterile Processing and obtaining an associate degree within two years of hire meets the basic qualification.

**Experience Qualifications**

+ Three (3) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.

**Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**

+ Understanding of education delivery methods and adult learning models

+ Ability to demonstrate an understanding of healthcare delivery systems and clinical care process.

+ Demonstrated ability to analyze, develop, interpret and integrate clinical and financial information and alternatives.

+ Knowledge of and experience of surgical instrumentation, sterilization practices, infection control standards, inventory control and sterile processing activities.

+ Demonstrated ability to work independently, handle a high degree of responsibility, and to prioritize multiple, conflicting assignments.

+ Strong oral and written communication skills.

+ Demonstrates ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals at different skill levels.

+ Experience in leading or facilitating teams or groups.

+ Experience with PC-based word processing, spreadsheet, and data base management applications required.

+ Self-directed, assertive, demonstrated ability to be creative and innovative in a high-volume work environment.

**Licenses and Certifications**

+ CRCST - Certified Registered Central Service Technician or

+ CSPDT - Sterile Process/Dist Tech

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $40.46 - $52.61 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
