South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) seeks a highly motivated and qualified candidate for the position of Part-Time Hourly Campus Security Officer working Wednesday-Thursday from 8 am-4 pm.The purpose of the Campus Security Officer is to support student success by facilitating a safe andsecure environment to encourage student retention and completion. This position is directly responsible for the general safety and security of two college campuses and two satellite locations, the protection of life and property, maintenance of order, providing assistance to visitors, students, faculty, and staff by providing security services for the college community which includes public safety/service, crime prevention, and emergency response.South Puget Sound Community College is committed to increasing its cultural diversity with an emphasis on equity and inclusion among its professional staff. Current Employee Resource Groups include:* Staff and Faculty of Color (SFOC) ERG - an employee network which strives to create an intentional and relational foundation for community and trust building across different groups through shared values.* The LGBTQIA+ ERG creates a space for LGBTQIA+ staff and faculty at the college to share resources, build support and community, and work towards greater equity and accessibility.Provision of Security Services:* Follow written and oral instructions; respond to emergencies and employ effective courses of action which includes summoning first responders.* Patrol campus buildings and property in security vehicle and on foot to enforcecollege policy, rules, regulations and applicable local, state, and federal statutes.* Observe and detect suspicious situations; protect life and property* Inspect college buildings and grounds for prowlers, suspicious activity, fire, property damage, safety hazards, and security of doors, windows, buildings and vehicles.* Operate security equipment including portable, mobile, and base radios, securityvehicles, computers, and telephones, expandable baton, handcuffs, OC (pepper)spray, flashlights, physical and electronic keys and key cars.* Issue timely warnings and emergency alert messages by telephone and computer .Minimum Qualifications:* High School diploma or equivalent* Possession of a valid driver's license* Two years of work experience as a campus police or security officer or equivalent education* No previous felony convictions; and satisfactory completion of a background check.Preferred Qualifications:* Knowledge of due process, use of force, WAC, RCW, FERP A and CLERY and security department standing operating procedures* Knowledge of keying systems, access control, and building security systems* Knowledge of computers and software applications, specifically MS Office suite: Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.* Knowledge of general safety precautions and fire hazards; fire alarm panel operation; first aid; report preparation and writing; law enforcement basics including use of force law; defensive tactics; officer safety, traffic control, interviewing, investigation procedures, evidence protection and preservationApplications must be completed online and include the following attachments:* Cover letter highlighting your ability to perform the responsibilities and competencies described in the job posting.* Current resume showing all educational and professional experience that demonstrates how you meet the minimum and any preferred qualifications.Top candidates will be notified directly to interview for this position.
