- Job Summary
- The MDH Behavioral Health Services Office Assistant is responsible for the following daily activities. Daily activities which include, but are not limited to, answering the telephone, receiving visitors, making appointments, data entry, QuicDoc, Scheduler, HMS, Billing Insurance Certification / Authorization, Microsoft WORD and Excel, and establishing a good statistical/record system.

- EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent. Previous secretarial experience required.
- JOB KNOWLEDGE: Accurate spelling a must. Knowledge of operation of office machines including computer. Knowledge of filing systems and record keeping. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Office, Excel, QuicDoc, HMS and scheduler required.
- ABILITIES, INTERESTS AND TEMPERAMENTS:
- Ability to handle incoming/outgoing telephone calls and visitors in an appropriate manner that will enhance and promote customer service.
- Absolute integrity and sufficient maturity to handle confidential aspects of the position.
- Ability to exercise tact, initiative and good judgment.
- Emotionally stable and mature. Capable of developing and maintaining positive working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and members of the community.
- A preference for routine, concrete and organized activities, but also must possess the ability to adapt to changes resulting from emergencies and schedules, staff or procedural changes.
- A commitment to strive for optimal skills and greater competencies in the area of office management and interpersonal relationships.
- Ability to work independently without close supervision.
- Must have the ability to work with a variety of patient populations (e.g. cultural diversity, ages from teen through geriatrics, hearing impaired, physical and mental disabilities, and variety of educational and cognitive levels).
