Job Summary Perform any combination of the following duties: plan and prepare nutritious meals for crew members, ensure that all necessary food provisions are on board, Responsible for the cleanliness and upkeep of the galley its equipment and utensils, with the approval of the Captain, order galley supplies and groceries, manage all meals to reduce waste and hold stores to a minimum, immediately inform the Captain of any malfunction of galley equipment or systems.
Job Description ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Know, understand, follow, and carry out all company safety rules, procedures, and policies as stated in the Employee Handbook and the Responsible Carrier Program, especially as they relate to the safety of the galley and all crew members and visitors who enter the galley.
- Maintain the galley area, cabinets, shelves, and food storage areas in a clean and organized manner
- Maintain a clean Cook's quarters and bathroom.
- Expected to take the initiative in all areas of work, especially in meal planning, and food preparation; and to guard against waste and overstocking of stores.
- Participate as required in the Vessel Safety Program.
- Know, maintain, and manage the vessel grocery budget
- Maintain all required documentation in Cook's galley log.
- Successfully complete ServSafe Course.
- Perform all other duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Educational Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and/or experience, along with holding a current valid driver's license.
- Experience Requirements Experience working on a Tow Boat as a Cook is necessary.
- Should be able to demonstrate from prior experience the ability to prepare nutritious meals for groups.
- The work requires that the Cook be able to concentrate on all assigned tasks while using a variety of utensils and equipment, so as to perform them in a safe and efficient manner.
- Must be polite, respectful and fair in all contacts.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: • Willingness to work the scheduled hours that the Boat operates under. Must be familiar in the use of, but not limited to; ovens, stoves, fryers, warmers and serving tables, sinks, kitchen utensils, and can openers. • Position is and as needed basis. • Travel required. • This is a culture of high involvement and agility, where employees collaborate to foster mutual care for one another and demonstrate a shared commitment to common goals. • Successful candidates in this position are skilled in their craft, developing quality products with a dedication to safety in the workplace. Compensation Range: $147.26-147.26 USD
