Role description:
Arcadis is seeking a General Superintendent/ Assistant Resident Engineer, with 5 or more years of experience, to join our construction management team working on construction projects located within the NYC Metropolitan Area.
This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual to join our team locally with support from one of the best-qualified municipal consulting firms in the country. As a General Superintendent/ Assistant Resident Engineer, you will utilize your experience and technical knowledge of construction management, municipal infrastructure, building construction, building systems including MEP, site development, and general civil/structural construction work to successfully assist the Arcadis Assistant Project Manager/ Resident Engineer with the oversight and management of Arcadis' on-site team for its delivery of construction management services for the construction of a new boiler building at a NYCHA development located in Brooklyn, NY. You will work under the supervision of the Assistant Project Manager/ Resident Engineer
Role accountabilities:
Construction Oversight: You will be expected to assist with management of the firm's day-to-day construction management services including resident engineering, inspection, oversight and management of the general contractor's performance and progress.
Documentation: Ensure the delivery of daily inspector reports in accordance with the clients' requirements. This will also require reviewing the contractor's CPM schedule and other schedule documentation including but not limited to monthly updates, schedule narratives, delays, time impact analyses, and time extension requests. Provide comments, analysis, and deliverables. Assist with the change order process as needed including preparation, estimation, and negotiation.
Internal Staff: A successful candidate will be able to manage and mentor inspection staff in monitoring and tracking the contractor's work, performance, quality, schedule, and safety. Assist with management and mentoring of field office staff responsible for record keeping, general correspondence, meeting agendas and minutes, compiling and drafting of required reports, tracking and logging, and other deliverables. Assist with liaison to design staff to respond to contractor's RFIs, review of shop drawings, and resolution of other issues as needed.
Third Party Oversight: Ability to manage sub-consultants and review sub-consultant monthly invoices for completeness and accuracy. Part of this role will be to proactively engage in the contractor's planning and execution of the work to foresee and help resolve design/construction issues. Assist with oversight and management of the general contractor's efforts related to overall site safety, MPT, permit condition compliance and coordination with other participant agencies. Monitor contractor performance, schedule, overall responsiveness and effectiveness and exert influence over contractor to maintain project goals regarding cost, schedule, quality, etc,
Client Interaction: You will be a primary point of contact with our client to assist with the Program Management and NYCHA Asset and Capital Management staff to communicate and resolve all project issues as required. You will also be a liaison with NYCHA's Property Management, Heating Division and Tenant's Association to coordinate construction activities with NYCHA's existing housing development needs.
Communication: Effectively use oral and written communication skills to effectively lead including, as needed, progress, project, safety, scheduling and other contract administration meetings with client, contractor, local agencies and the community.
Miscellaneous: Other duties as assigned and required
Qualifications & Experience:
* 5 years or more of experience with at least 2 years of General Superintendent/ Assistant Resident Engineer experience specifically for NYC Metro Public agencies.
* Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Construction or a related field of study.
* Able to use basic functions of construction software document management applications such as eBuilder and the MS Office Suite (particularly Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

The salary range for this position is $115,000 - $165,000 Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
