Job Description :

Tarleton State University seeks an experienced practitioner, educator, researcher, and administrator to serve as The Founding Dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine. The Dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) will report to the Tarleton State University President and will work to create a comprehensive business plan, develop program curriculum, and collaborate with healthcare partners to secure commitments for clinical placements and residencies.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Working with the president, vice presidents, and college deans, the COM Dean will lead the establishment of and advance a unified vision and identity for a new osteopathic medical college. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Provide leadership and management of a successful accreditation process through the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA).
  • Collaborate with leaders of other internal and external departments, institutions, and stakeholders to ensure that Tarleton State University and the Tarleton State COM's mission is met in alignment with our core values.
  • Ensure relevant academic standards are met as per accreditation requirements of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA).
  • Coordinate start-up funding, preliminary facilities, and fundraising efforts with the university and external stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively to develop and execute strategies to ensure that budgets, policies, and procedures are followed.
  • Secure clinical relationships for clerkship and GME development in local and regional medical communities.
  • Overall key contact for project planning and development of The College of Osteopathic Medicine.
  • Facilitate implementation of steps outlined in the feasibility study.
  • Oversee project planning of facility construction.
  • Recruitment of Assistant/Associate Deans, faculty, and staff.
  • Provide leadership to team with regular feedback, assessments, and performance evaluations.
  • Management of curriculum development and program processes.
  • Maintain state regulatory requirements as required by the State of Texas.
  • Build local, state, and federal relationships with stakeholders.
  • Develop a faculty practice enterprise and clinical system.
  • Serve as an active participant on committees or task forces or other duties as assigned by the president.

Other Job Functions

  • Act as liaison between the Tarleton State COM, the professional community, other educational institutions and organizations, and state and federal agencies as indicated and directed by the president.
  • Participate in relevant and appropriate community and professional outreach activities on behalf of the College and the University.

Required Qualifications and Credentials

  • A Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree is required.
  • Experience developing and implementing new medical education programs in the United States, preferably Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine.
  • Proven track record working with multiple stakeholders—involvement with local, state, or national organizations.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills; the capacity to communicate effectively with diverse internal and external constituencies.
