DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The Department of Engineering Technology at Norfolk State University invites applications for a Department of Engineering Technology Lab Technician beginning January 2025. The department offers an Associate of Science degree in Architectural Drafting, and Bachelor of Science degrees in Construction Management Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering Technology and Electronics Engineering Technology. Responsibility include thirteen (13) faculty offices; four (4) labs; and over 180 students.
LAB TECHNICIAN DUTIES: The successful candidate will:
Assist department in lab class preparations
Assist department in setting up audio visual equipment
Assist and guide students with lab projects
Assist department with site visits and accreditation preparation
Provide faculty and students with IT support as needed
Troubleshoot and repair equipment, computers, and computer networks
Be responsible for the maintenance, upkeep, and safety of all departmental labs, and
for recommending replacement of office and lab equipment
Be responsible for disposition and inventory of all departmental equipment, coordinate and compile reports to communicate with the university Fixed Assets Department
Be responsible for updating and installing software for department computer labs
Be an avid lifelong learner and aggressively keep abreast of new technologies
Be able to maintain working relationships with faculty, students and other employees from a variety of cultural backgrounds
Be able to lift up to 50lbs
Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
Working knowledge of electronics, building construction, computer networks, and audiovisual equipment.
Experience in technical lab management and student support.
Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite skills, electronics, architectural and construction
related software.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
Ability to provide excellent customer service to student, staff and the general public.
Associate of Science degree in Electronics, Computer Engineering Technology or
closely related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities.
