Job Title: GIFTED EDUCATION SPECIALIST Supervised by/Reports to: Special Education Director Employment Status: Contracted Personnel Job Goals:
To provide assessment and instruction for students that enables them to learn and achieve to the maximum of their abilities. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Valid Alabama teaching certificate in Special Education/Gifted. Previous successful teaching experience. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills. Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups. Ability to develop and implement lessons and programming specific to the needs of gifted students. Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information. Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require. Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities. Establishes a positive classroom climate and effectively manages gifted education instruction within that environment. Models appropriate and innovative use of technology for students and staff. Utilizes innovative teaching techniques and technology as a teaching tool to plan and provide instruction, acts as a facilitator for students in the use of technology in the classroom. Provides quality gifted education experiences for all students and ensures each student's progress on an individual basis when possible. Assess students for the Gifted Education Program and collaborate with psychometrist for needed IQ tests. 9. Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership. 10. Completes all gifted referrals in accordance with State Department of Education (SDE) and system guidelines. Maintains gifted records in PowerSchool Special Programs and in Gifted Education (GEP) student folders. Assists in curriculum development for GEP program. Attends GEP eligibility meetings for students in service area. Conducts parent GEP meetings in accordance with SDE and system guidelines. Interprets individual test results for oneself and parents for the purpose of planning and enhancing instruction. Actively supervises students during assigned duty before, during and/or after school as directed. Participates in state-approved evaluation program as required. Attends local, state, and national staff development programs, workshops, and conferences to improve professional performance and knowledge. Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters. Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility. Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel. Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner. Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively supervises and monitors others in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations. Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by the director.
