To successfully attain these goals, we recognize our success hinges on the diverse, well qualified, dedicated staff we employ and retain.What We Are Seeking: The DATCP's Division of Trade and Consumer Protection is recruiting to fill multiple Produce Inspector Limited Term Employment vacancies. During the peak seed potato shipping season (late January to Late April), inspectors are expected to work 40 hours or more per week. During the rest of the year, a limited number of hours may be available on an occasional basis.Where These Positions Will Be Working: These positions will be headquartered in Antigo, Wisconsin. Inspectors will report to the University of Wisconsin's Seed Potato Certification Office in Antigo and then travel to various seed potato farms and storage sheds in the area; inspectors must provide their own transportation to and from work sites. Position Summary These LTE positions sample, inspect, and grade seed potatoes and other fruits and vegetables at shipping point entering commercial channels of sales. Incumbents are required to draw representative samples and examine each unit in the sample both externally and internally for defects in accordance with federal grade standards. Incumbent certifies the grade by writing an official inspection certificate. Incumbent must obtain and maintain USDA-AMS Fruit and Vegetable Inspection Authorization License pursuant to 7 CFR, Part 51 and 107 of the Federal Agricultural Marketing Act.20% - Collection of representative samples.50% - Analysis of samples and determination of grade from the samples collected.30% - Preparation and issuance of official inspection certificates. Salary Information The Produce Inspector classification is in schedule/ range 05-11.Pay will be $20.79 per hourFor current and eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan effective at the time of hire. Job Details DATCP does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the selected applicant being able to provide documentation of eligibility to work in the United States.A criminal background check will be performed on the selected applicant prior to an offer of employment.Applicant must be a resident of Wisconsin (18 years of age or older).Applicant must possess a valid driver's license, including proof of current auto insurance, OR the ability to provide one's own transportation for work purposes.Inspectors are required to lift up to 50 pounds; standing on their feet for long periods of time and reaching with their hands is quite common. Much of this work takes place in unheated agricultural sheds with dust, damp or wet products, low temperatures and other adverse conditions.Due to the nature of the work, hours and shifts will vary. Work may exceed 40 hours per week during inspection season.Inspector must obtain and maintain USDA-AMS Fruit and Vegetable Inspection Authorization License pursuant to 7 CFR, Part 51 and 107, of the Federal Agriculture Marketing Act.Travel and outdoor work are required 12 months of the year; conditions are frequently dusty, dirty and may be hazardous.Limited term positions are not civil service classified positions, do not have rights to permanent civil service classified positions, and do not lead to permanent status.This position is Limited Term Employment (LTE) and is limited to 1,039 hours in 26 consecutive pay periods (1 year) Qualifications Qualified applicants will have the following:Training, education, and/or experience related to performing inspections, evaluations, sampling and/or quality control functions in an agricultural or food processing environment.
