Position Type: Elementary School Teaching/Pre-K Date Posted: 4/30/2024 Location: Sadie Saulter PreK Exceptional Children's Pre-K Program Specialist Position Type: Elementary School Teaching/Pre-K Date Posted: 4/30/24 Location: Sadie Saulter Educational Center Pre-K Program Specialist Job Description Position Summary: The PK Program Specialist will provide support to administrators, Special Education teachers and support staff to achieve and maintain standards of excellence in the delivery of Special Education services to ensure that each student involved may derive the greatest academic, vocational, and personal benefit from the learning experience. The specialist must have knowledge of developmental norms, programming options for students with disabilities as well as an understanding of the characteristics and needs of students with disabilities. Reports to: Director Exceptional Children's Department - Pitt County Schools Term of Employment: 12 months Qualifications: Current NC Teaching license in Special Education Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience in preschool special education Knowledge of federal, state and local mandates for Special Education Excellent organization and communication skills Performance Responsibilities: • Monitor ECPK programs to ensure compliance and effectiveness of programming. • Provide consultation and guidance to preschool teachers in matters related to EC programming. • Provide classroom teachers with counsel and assistance toward the solution of problems as directed. • Assists parents in participating in the special education process including but not limited to identification of child's needs, IEP development and resolution of disputes. • Assist with the coordination of the referral, evaluation and placement of students referred to Special Education Services. • Participates as a member of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team in the identification of individuals with exceptional needs, as appropriate. • Assists special education personnel in developing instructional objectives and techniques for writing and implementing IEP's for individuals with exceptional needs. • Collaborate with local community partners. • Observe, consult with and assist individual classroom teachers in instructional and classroom performance. • Assist in the provision of staff development/workshops to assist teachers in improving instruction. • Assist in maintaining all records and files in accordance with procedures established by the Special Education department. (Review for audit/compliance) • Assist with the transition process from Part C (Early Intervention Services) to Part B (Preschool Services) • Have knowledge of policy and procedure of preschool education. Must be knowledgeable in school law and regulations. • Assist in collecting data for CCIP. • Other duties as assigned by the Director of the Exceptional Children's Department.
