JOB SUMMARY:

The accountant will assist in assuring the compliance with all federal, state and local laws as well as generally accepted accounting principles.

qualifications:

1. Bachelor's Degree or higher in Accounting or related financial degree with three (3) years of professional level experience; Master's and CPA preferred

2. Governmental, Non-profit, or K-12 accounting experience preferred

3. Audit experience preferred

4. Extensive computer and spreadsheet knowledge and experience

5. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills

6. Understands and follows confidentiality protocols

Responsibilities:

* Assists in maintaining revenue and expense ledgers in accordance with the Financial Reporting Manual for Maryland Public Schools, for all QACPS district funds, including but not limited to the General Operating Fund, the School Construction Fund, School grants

* Assists in ensuring revenues and expenses are aligned with the requirements for the Blueprint for Maryland's future

* Reconciles/reviews general ledger accounts as assigned

* Assist with QACPS purchasing and procurement activities

* Prepares monthly bank and general ledger reconciliations for all QAC school system funds

* Reconcile the school system's procurement cards and process the monthly journal entries

* Serves as the back up for the system administrator and payroll department staff

* Prepares/reviews journal entries and interdepartmental entries for accuracy, completeness and backup

* Performs internal auditing on a transitional and compliance basis

* Attends to department requests for assistance

* Prepares reports for internal financials and external audits

* Provides support for restricted accounting to include grants.

* Other duties as assigned by the CFO or designee

Pay and Hours:

This is a full-time, 12 month position with a minimum of 35 hours per week. Salary will be based on knowledge, experience, skills and abilities related to this position.
