Every employee takes a person-centered approach that exemplifies the ICARE values (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence) through empathic communication and partnerships between all persons.Job DescriptionBASIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision of the Outpatient Clinical Nutrition Manager, provides Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to adult patients who are referred by the medical staff from the NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue outpatient clinics. The dietitian follows hospital and departmental policies and procedures and participates in all interdisciplinary activities as a member of the health care team.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides nutrition services for Bellevue Cancer Center
  • Identifies the patient's nutritional and metabolic status and nutrient needs
  • Reviews clinical and biochemical data to formulate a nutrition care plan
  • Develops and implements MNT protocols, which include a nutritional assessment based on diet history, clinical data and educational needs
  • Documents care plans, consultations, recommendations and follow-up interventions in the electronic medical record
  • Recommends, develops and applies evidence-based nutrition protocols for the oncology patient under direction of cancer services clinic medical director in conjunction with the ambulatory clinical nutrition manager
  • Consults with other team members as necessary
  • Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings in Cancer Services
  • Collaborates with other institutions/organizations on nutrition-related projects and courses
  • Participates in various community-based outreach programs
  • Instructs nutrition classes and lectures as needed to patients, employees, students and clinical staff
  • Assists in the development of culturally sensitive nutrition educational material to meet the needs of an ethnically diverse patient population
  • Maintains continuing education in nutrition, clinical dietetics and related areas as appropriate in order to maintain current knowledge and skills in the practice of clinical nutrition
  • Maintains credentialing as a registered dietitian
  • Performs related duties as required
The NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue Cancer Center is committed to providing high-quality cancer services in 15 areas of expertise such as head and neck, cervical, colorectal, and other cancers. Bellevue Cancer Center has been awarded by the Commission on Cancer Accreditation and Breast Cancer Accreditation. Oncology dietitians will participate in the accreditation meetings and will be involved in outreach events to promote cancer awareness and prevention.Minimum QualificationsQualification Requirements: For appointment to Assignment Level I 1. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in Dietetics or Foods and Nutrition in a program approved by the American Dietetic Association (ADA); or, 2. Registration or eligibility for registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) as a Registered Dietitian or New York State Certification as a Dietitian-Nutritionist. For appointment to Assignment Level II 1. Registration by the CDR as a Registered Dietitian or New York State Certification as a Dietitian-Nutritionist. For appointment to Assignment Levels III and IV 1. Registration by the CDR as a Registered Dietitian or New York State Certification as a Dietitian-Nutritionist. Special Note for Dietitians assigned to Post-Acute Care (Long-Term Care) facility: Under the Medicare and Medicaid Programs, Reform of Requirements for Long-Term Care Facilities, as outlined in Section 483.60 of Title 42 of the Code of Federal Regulations all newly-hired Dietitians, Levels I-IV assigned to a Post-Acute Care (Long-Term Care) facility, are required to have New York State Certification, issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED), as a Dietitian-Nutritionist at the time of hire. Dietitians, Levels I-IV hired prior to November 28, 2016, assigned to a Post-Acute Care (Long-Term Care) facility are required to obtain New York State Certification, issued by the NYSED, as a Dietitian-Nutritionist on or before November 28, 2021.NYC Health and Hospitals offers a competitive benefits package that includes:
