Now, you have the opportunity to joinStaff Nurse - RN - Second Chance/3N - NightsThe Second Change Program is a partnership between the NYS Office of Mental Health and NYP. Its purpose is to improve the care of NY's long-stay psychiatric population. This mixed gender program is focused on those who have had long, continuous hospitalizations because of persistent psychotic symptoms and behaviors that interfere with community living. Although their illnesses have prevented them from living in the community in the past, these patients have the potential for improvement and eventual discharge from the hospital. Treatment consists of medication, intensive education about mental illnesses and its treatment, social skills training, skills for community living and discharge planning. The program also addresses drug abuse and other problems that may cause relapse.This is a full time, 40 hours weekly ( 3 x12 hours weekly plus additional 8 hrs. biweekly) nights shift , including weekend (Sat+ Sunday) coverage at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital / Westchester Behavioral Health Center.Preferred Criteria
- At least 1 year of previous in-patient psychiatric nursing experience
- Nursing Certification/s
Required Criteria
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Current New York State RN license (or willingness to obtain)
- BCLS certification
- New Grad Residency Program completion
- Knowledge of nursing process: social, behavioral, biological and physical science and current health care environment
- Knowledge of customer service principles & effective interpersonal communication skills
- Knowledge of use of computer applications
- Ability to analyze patient care data to deliver and evaluate care
