Job Title: Paralegals and Legal AssistantsEmployee Type: Contract Work Hours: 37.5 hrs./weekJob Duration: 1 Year Work site: Hybrid (Remote for Local candidates only)Location: 40 North Pearl Street, Albany, NY 12207Closing: 11/25/2024. Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the OTDA Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH) in issuing written fair hearing decisions in a timely manner.
  • Draft decisions based on written guidance from presiding Administrative Law Judges (ALJs), evidence, audio recordings, and proprietary decision drafting software.
  • Participate in hearings by listening in real-time and stating appearance on the record, if directed.
  • Utilize recommended outcomes, credibility assessments, and legal directives provided by ALJs to draft decisions.
  • Ensure draft decisions include accurate law, findings of fact, analysis, and directives using standardized software.
  • Provide production support and resolve equipment issues as directed.
Work Expectations:
  • Work under the direct supervision of an OAH attorney.
  • Follow New York State's official work schedule, including two 15-minute breaks per day (cannot be used to shorten the workday).
  • Report to the office when required for training, equipment retrieval or return, and operational needs.
Paralegal Requirements:
  • Certification: Certified Paralegal.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years providing complex legal support services to an attorney.
Skills:
  • Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Proficiency in legal language, principles, and organizational skills.
  • Analytical skills and familiarity with legal processes, terminology, and forms.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply laws and legal documents.
  • Competency with OTDA-issued equipment and Microsoft Suite software.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to non-disclosure agreements.
Additional Requirements:
  • Complete all assigned training programs.
  • Raise safety and professional concerns to supervisors.
  • Access systems and complete assignments within the 48 contiguous United States and the District of Columbia.
Miscellaneous Information
  • Shift Days/Time: Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • Parking costs vary by lot, ranging from $32 to $120 per month (subject to availability and changes outside OTDA control).
  • Daily lots are available for approximately $7, and meter parking options exist.
  • Work Equipment: OTDA-issued equipment is mandatory for use.
  • Training will be provided.
