  • Free Employee Assistance Program (EAP)**Medical and dental benefits are provided to regular employees who work a minimum of 30 hours per week.**POSITION PURPOSE:Under the direction of the Administrative Lead, the Billing Specialist performs a wide variety of routine clerical and billing support functions and timely and accurate entry and maintenance of client eligibility data, generation of client information, client billing preparation and reconciliation processes, and customer service.EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
    • Completes electronic and paper claims processing, insurance eligibility, customer service, and payment processing;
    • Provides clerical assistance to Administrative Lead such as typing correspondence, scheduling meetings, answering telephone;
    • Assists with all electronic health record/information system duties - data entry, corrections, reports, scheduling, and billing;
    • Prepares program materials and documents as needed;
    • Develops and maintains billing filing systems;
    • Creates and maintains databases of record;
    • Records, transcribes, and maintains minutes of meetings;
    • Serves as courier as required;
    • Assists in preparing monthly reports, mileage reimbursement reports;
    • Maintains inventory of office equipment, supplies and materials;
    • Completes all other duties as assigned.DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge and Ability of:Knowledge of accounting principles, medical office billing and claims processing; Insurance verification and business software; Inventory keeping and organization. General understanding of psychosocial treatments for SUD treatment, MAT services, and insurance verification and billing. Experience working with a culturally diverse population and knowledge of cultural issues, values, & beliefs of the target population of adults with SMI, homelessness, co-occurring disorders, and criminogenic risks and needs, relevant to providing appropriate BPSR program services; Clinical assessment of clients with severe mental illness, counseling theory, and clinical care coordination principles, and best practices, cultural and socio-economic issues relevant to providing appropriate rehabilitation and recovery services to special population groups, including Latino, African American, and LGBTQIA+ communities; Exercise sound, expert independent judgment within general policy guidelines; Communicate clearly and concisely; operate a computer using word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications; Operate standard office equipment.Language Skills:Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions primarily in English from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public; demonstrated skills in written and oral communication.Mathematical Skills:Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.Reasoning Ability:Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.Experience and Training:A High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) equivalent with at least one (1) year experience in accounting, billing, and customer service. 60 words per minute typing preferred.LICENSES, CERTIFICATES & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:A Valid Driver's License with current California automobile insurance; A Valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification; A valid Tuberculosis (TB) test upon hire and updated every four (4) years.PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this class.
