The Office of Custodial Services under the Department of Facility Services within the Frederick County Division of Parks & Recreation is committed to providing the highest level of facility management in an effort to maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for all stakeholders who live, work, and conduct business in our Frederick County Government Facilities (Park and NON-Park Sites). Our In-House Custodial staff are required to go through extensive personal background check in order to be approved to work in our high-security facilities.
Non-exempt (compensatory and/or overtime eligible); full-time; 40 hours per week; Monday - Friday; 4:00 p.m. - 12:30 a.m.: full benefits
NOTE: Employees who work between the hours of 4:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m. may be eligible for an additional shift differential pay. Details regarding eligibility for shift differential pay will be shared at the time of interview.
This position will assist in planning, coordinating and overseeing custodial services and will be performing comprehensive custodial duties in assigned County facilities. While performing this work, the Assistant Lead Custodian must take all appropriate precautionary measures to ensure the safety of employees and visitors in the assigned buildings. Supervision is given to Custodians; supervision is received from the Lead Custodian, or an assigned designee.
NOTE: The upper pay range reflects possible wage rates for internal County transfers and promotions. For transfers and promotions, wage rates are calculated per County policy.

* Assist in assigning and coordinating custodial work for assigned County facilities
* Inspect completed and in-progress custodial work to assure compliance with safety and cleanliness standards
* Assist in training of Custodians; assign and follow-up on work performed; prepare and review staff performance evaluations; prepare work plans
* Assist in performing minor repair(s) and maintenance of custodial equipment; ensure more complex equipment breakdowns are referred for repair or replacement
* Assist in ensuring that each assigned facility is secure (inside and outside) prior to departing from duty
* As needed, operate a large van to transport supplies and equipment between County facilities
* Report damage and potential safety hazards to the Lead Custodian, Custodian Services Supervisor (or designee) and to the Building Manager
* Perform floor care tasks in accordance with established techniques and procedures
* Assist in maintaining an ongoing Detail Cleaning program
* Wash walls, windows, stairways and woodwork (which may require working from a ladder)
* Clean, disinfect, and deodorize restrooms; restock restroom supplies
* Dust and polish furniture and equipment
* Move and arrange furniture and equipment
* Empty wastebaskets and remove trash
* Empty containers for paper and other materials set aside for the County recycling program, bring recyclables to the designated collection area and place in appropriate storage containers
* Perform other related duties as required

* High school graduation or the equivalent
* Minimum 1 year of custodial/janitorial work experience
* Possession of a valid automobile operator's license
* Current certifications in First Aid, CPR and AED, or ability to become so certified within 6 months after hire
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
* Ability to maintain County Authorized Driver privileges
* Ability to complete Blood Borne Pathogens training and other related training when scheduled
* Knowledge of proper types of custodial equipment, cleaning agents, disinfecting chemicals and protective gear to use in all types of cleaning work, with the ability to use them safely and to train others to do so as well
* Ability to effectively operate a high-speed buffer, standard buffer, vacuum cleaner, carpet extractor and other related equipment, with the ability to effectively instruct others in doing so
* Effective spoken and written (English) communication skills, including the ability to give clear direction and instruction, and the ability to accurately prepare forms, reports and other written work
* Computer skills sufficient to effectively access and utilize word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail and other applications
* Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public
PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN FOR:
* Intermediate skills in MS Word and MS Excel
* Work experience performing inventory duties
* Work experience performing floor stripping, carpet extractions, polishing/burnishing floors, etc.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS:
* While working in this position, the employee is required to constantly walk, reach, perform repetitive motions and drive; frequently stoop/kneel/crouch, lift over 50 pounds, and push and pull up to 40 pounds; occasionally rarely sit and crawl
* While working in this position, the employee is required to constantly works indoors, work in a dirty/dusty environment, work near chemicals or fumes, and is required to wear protective equipment; frequently potential exposure to infectious diseases; occasionally works outdoors, and rarely works in hot temperatures above 100 degrees, cold temperatures below 32 degrees and in a noisy environment
* Ability to provide own transportation when needed
* Available for occasional weekend and holiday hours, as needed
* Available to provide own transportation to various Frederick County buildings
* Available for a minimum of three mandatory Parks and Recreation events, and available for occasional weekend work or irregular hours as needed
* Required certifications must be maintained during tenure of employment
