Pay Schedule I, Grade 26, Regular Schedule: 35 hours per week.A vacancy exists in the Department of Recreation and Parks for Recreation Activity Center Coordinator. This proof must be submitted by the closing date of the job posting.Job PurposeUnder general supervision, manages the operations of a recreation activity center. Supervises the educational and recreational programming for at-risk youth in a recreation activity center. Evaluates, monitors and screens clients. Makes referrals to other agencies or professionals.Essential Job DutiesManages the daily operations of a recreation activity center.Supervises and trains staff.Oversees, plans and schedules a diversified program of activities and services for recreation activity centers participants.Supervises recreation and education activities designed to meet the needs of at-risk youth primarily between the ages of seven and seventeen.Interviews recreation activity center participants to assess needs.Determines need to refer recreation activity center participants to licensed professionals.Evaluates and monitors recreation activity center participants.Follows up on referrals.Acts as a liaison between other agencies and recreation activity center participants.Conducts educational, prevention and recreational programs and activities for at-risk youth.Prepares statistical and analytical reports of recreation activity center programs and services.Responds to inquiries concerning recreation activity center programs and services.Meets with social and civic organizations within the community.Examples of Other DutiesMay lead and instruct volunteers and other workers at recreation activity centers.Performs other related duties as required.NOTE: The duties and responsibilities listed above are for the purpose of determining a common set of minimum qualifications for all positions in this class. Each position may not be required to perform all of the essential job functions listed.Required Education and ExperienceGraduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in recreation and parks, social or behavioral science, public administration or education.Experience as described in Examples of Essential Duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years for the required education.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Entry Level)Knowledge of the theory and principles of adolescent development, alcohol and drug abuse and problems related to socioeconomic factors.Knowledge of the objectives and theory of neighborhood recreation programs. Knowledge of diagnostic assessment and basic treatment planning.Knowledge of individual, group and family counseling techniques.Basic knowledge of community, human and social services assistance programs.Writing skills necessary to complete case histories, forms and reports.Good interpersonal skills.Ability to organize and schedule a variety of recreation programs directed toward at-risk youth.Ability to conduct educational programs for the community.Ability to conduct individual assessment interviews.Ability to formulate a basic treatment plan based on assessment interviews.Ability to make appropriate referrals.Ability to appropriately handle hostile individuals and individuals experiencing a crisis. Ability to understand the rules and procedures of law enforcement and the criminal justice system.Ability to interpret federal, state and local guidelines, procedures and regulations for human services professionals.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Full Performance)Knowledge of the principles of law enforcement and the criminal justice system.Knowledge of community resources and support groups available to participants.Knowledge and understanding of applicable federal, state and local guidelines, procedures and regulations, including those of the criminal justice system.Knowledge of County and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and rules.Knowledge of CPR and first aid.Skill in organizing and scheduling a variety of recreation programs directed toward at-risk youth.
