Title: DispatcherDepartment: University City Police DepartmentThe City of University City is seeking an individual to join our team of 911 Emergency Dispatchers. This position is responsible for dispatching emergency responders such as police, fire, and ambulance, to locations throughout University City and surrounding area.Job Identification/Position SummaryThis is specialized work in receiving and dispatching messages in the Police, Fire, and Ambulance Communications Center. Work involves responsibility for operating two-way radios, computer systems, receiving phone calls, and performing related clerical tasks. This position requires fast, efficient, and accurate receiving, dispatching, and processing of calls and messages to and from Police and Fire Personnel, and other City personnel as required. Calls and messages include routine reports, requests for information, and those requiring emergency actions by Police and/or Fire personnel. All work performed in accordance with established rules and regulations.Essential FunctionsThe following duties are normal for this classification. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Dispatches Police Officer to emergencies and other assignmentsDispatches Fire Department apparatus and personnelRelays information to other Police and Fire agencies; sends and receives computer messagesMonitors various radio frequenciesMaintains records as requiredPerforms related work as required Minimum Requirements No criminal historyMinimum of age eighteenGood oral and written communicationsAbility to type at least twenty-five (25) words per minuteAbility to keep records and perform miscellaneous routine clerical workAbility to work various shifts and assignmentsAbility to understand and follow written and oral instructionsAbility to successfully go through and pass the pre-hiring process Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Preferred but Not Required REJIS and LE WEBConsiderable knowledge of radio transmission proceduresEducation beyond high school diplomaKnowledge of Federal Communication Commission rules and regulations governing operation of radio-telephone transmitting and receiving systemsKnowledge of Police and Fire organization, operation, and codes Attributes Possess integrityAbility to maintain confidentialityAbility to act quickly and correctly in an emergencyAbility to be tactful and courteous with the public and City employees in all situationsAbility to multi-task in a fast-paced demanding environmentGood moral characterTeam player Education Graduation from high school or equivalent Physical and Environmental Conditions Sitting, computer typing, radio transmitting, and answering telephone calls in a closed environment for long periods of timeWorking various shifts, holidays, and weekends at times as needed Equipment Used to Perform Job Computers, telephones, printers, copiers #J-18808-Ljbffr
