Job Title: Assistant Football Coach / Scholar-Athlete Success Coordinator

Reporting Relationship: Directly reports to Head Football Coach; Closely aligned with the work of (1) Special Assistant to the President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and (2) Dean for Enrollment Management and Director of Admissions
Office Location: Armory / TBD

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
An assistant football coach assigned to a position group, e.g., running backs, the staff member will significantly contribute to campus efforts focused on student recruitment and retention, scholar-athlete success, and further a culture of brotherhood among Wabash students. The position will mentor students and build bridges with campus student organizations that promote belonging and community engagement, such as La Alianza and the Malcolm X Institute of Black Studies. In partnership with our Restoring Hope, Restoring Trust grant, the position will also direct and develop partnerships with community-based organizations with a specific focus on college degrees for groups traditionally underserved by higher education.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities of the Assistant Football Coach / Student Success Coordinator
* Responsible for coaching a position group on the football team, as assigned by the Head Football Coach.
* Participate in recruiting activities coordinated by the Admissions Office, Athletics program, and other campus stakeholders, g., MXIBS.
* Foster a culture of belonging on campus, not exclusive to the football
* Building upon the strong freshmen to sophomore retention rate at the College, focus on connections with students from populations that have not recently persisted, g., out- of-state football SA's.
* Serve as a life coach committed to the holistic, personal development of all students, including scholar-athletes.
* Participate on student-focused campus committees, such as Retention Programmingand the Restoring Hope, Restoring Trust committee.
* Assist coaches in all sports to support scholar-athletes requiring additional attention academically or dealing with challenges beyond campus, g., liaison with coaches and individually work with students identified in WIN Reports.
* Assist with organization and promotion of summer residence program for rising high school sophomores and juniors enrolled with partner school districts and community- based organizations.
* Liaison to school counselors and key influencers and the cultivation of Wabash alumni and parent volunteers.
* Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree
* Football playing and coaching experience at the intercollegiate level is
* Experience working in higher education supporting young men, particularly athletes and students of color, in a rigorous academic environment.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to develop meaningful and purposeful relationships with Wabash students.
* Ability to effectively collaborate with the Wabash community beyond the student population, including faculty, coaches, staff, and alumni.
