Position Type: Maintenance/Custodial/Warehouse/GroundskeeperDate Posted: 10/14/2024Location: EC Maintenance Dept.Date Available: ImmediatelyClosing Date: Until FilledEAST CENTRAL INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT Job Announcement Groundskeeper The position of a Groundskeeper will be available immediately at East Central ISD. All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website. The deadline for submitting an application is until the position is filled. PRIMARY PURPOSE: Clean and maintain safe and attractive grounds, athletic fields, and landscaping for the district. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
Mow, weed-eat, edge, trim, till sandpits, flag placement, grade, and detail all district / assigned grounds, including athletic fields, playgrounds, and other district locations. Pressure wash grounds areas as assigned. Follow scheduled maintenance plan, preventative maintenance, and checklist as assigned to care for grounds, lawns, raking leaves, cleaning gutters and drains, trees, shrubs, and flowers by watering, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, caring for beds, and controlling weeds. Remove debris from sidewalks and parking lots. Plant shrubs and vegetation as needed. Assist with the preparation of athletic fields for games, practice, and rental of facilities, including chalking fields, cleaning and preparing athletic dugouts. Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish, organic matter, trash, from district facilities. Assist with the inspection, repair, and installation of sprinkler systems, grounds, playground equipment, and ground mulch, and other areas requiring inspection. Perform preventive maintenance of tools, vehicles, equipment, and complete minor repairs, cleaning, gasoline and oil changes of engines and tools, painting, blade sharpening, and other as needed, The duties of the Grounds person require constant duty performance in the outdoors in any and all types of weather. Review and follow energy and water conservation practices. Transport workers and equipment to work sites throughout the district. Safely operate motor vehicles assigned to the functions of the ground in strict accordance with the laws of the State of Texas and policies of the East Central Independent School District. Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency. Report problems with machines and equipment to the supervisor immediately. Practice care and preventive maintenance of tools, vehicles, and equipment. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures and practice safe handling of tools and equipment. Wear safety and protective gear (PPE) and equipment at all times. Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and promptly report any unsafe conditions. Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding equipment, tools, and facilities. Review, participate and complete all Safety Trainings. Perform other duties (Projects), as assigned. NOTE: Not all applicants will be interviewed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: High School Diploma or GED Valid Texas Driver's License Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to understand detailed written or oral instructions Ability to communicate effectively Ability to operate power-driven equipment and tools Knowledge of gardening, equipment, tools, and landscape maintenance Ability to lift and carry over 50 lbs. Knowledge of grounds, maintenance and safety procedures and policies Ability to work assigned hours to include a.m. or p.m. shifts and some weekends Willing to participate in all school district training that may be scheduled Ability to comprehend the operator's manuals and complete daily reports as required Knowledge of tree climbing and working at heights with protective equipment Experience: Experience in general turf, grounds, and field care Experience in the use and care of tools and equipment assigned to the grounds operation EQUIPMENT USED: Garden tools, small hand tools, power tools, heavy equipment including backhoe, tractor, zero-turning-radius mower, grader, trimmers, edgers, hand shears, chain saw, blowers, power mower, tractor/shredder, forklift, truck, van, other equipment, and vehicles. WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting, standing, walking, crouching, stooping, reaching forward, and handling of various materials; will require occasional climbing of stairs and ladders and occasional crawling and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving. Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis. Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration; exposure to chemicals (herbicides and fertilizer) and electrical hazards, work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent district wide travel.
