PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN - Finance - Fleet Services
JOB SUMMARY:
Under supervision, perform preventive maintenance and tire repairs on City vehicles and equipment. Perform other related work as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles/equipment, including (but not limited to) fluid and filter changes for all components including engines, manual transmissions, automatic transmissions, hydraulic systems, power steering, transfer cases, rear axle and final drive assemblies. Identify and distribute the correct fluid for the application and component/s. Identify various tire sizes, performs tire changes, and quality tire repairs consistent with industry standards. Perform inspections on vehicles/components for proper operation and identifies deficiencies. Assist in cleaning shop and work area. Read, write, and converse in the English language. Communicate courteously and effectively with other city employees, officials, vendors, and the public. Crawl under and/or climb on vehicles for inspections. Operate a large variety of vehicles and equipment. Lift, pull, and/or push up to 100 pounds of parts inventory. Sit, stand, stoop, twist and/or walk for extended periods of time during vehicle inspections. Work both indoors and outdoors, including in adverse weather conditions such as extreme cold, heat and temperature swings. Inspect automotive equipment to determine the need for oil, water, and air. Clean and care for tools. Use appropriate safety precautions in performance of job duties.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSES:
High school diploma, or G.E.D. required. Texas Class A Commercial Operator's license (CDL) required. Texas Class C Drivers License acceptable if applicant has also passed the written portion of Class A CDL test. Must obtain Texas Class A CDL within six months of assignment to position. Must obtain one A.S.E. or E.V.T. certification with 24 months of assignment to position.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
Must have six months to a year of experience in tire repair, and/or six months to a year of experience in preventive maintenance of vehicles/equipment in a fleet or retail automotive environment.
