Department:MOSQUITO CONTROL DEPARTMENT Organizational Unit:Countywide Mosquito & Aquatic Weed Ctl (50000045) Position Type:Permanent Full Time/Part Time:Full Time Open Until Filled. $22.05 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. North Area/Titusville/Travels Countywide. Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Performs experienced crafts and trades work inspecting, monitoring, and maintaining mosquito control impoundment areas, surveillance and treatment sites, and office facilities, including landscapes, buildings, earthen structures, weirs, culverts, piping, and pump stations. The work includes the operation and routine maintenance of heavy and complex construction equipment. REQUIREMENTS: Three (3) years of experience in the operation and routine maintenance of heavy equipment, including tractors with mowing implements and dump trucks; OR two (2) years of experience as a Brevard County Heavy Equipment Operator I OR Mosquito Control Impoundment Technician OR Mosquito Control Heavy Equipment & Impoundment Technician I PLUS a current State of Florida Public Health Pest Control license, issued in accordance with Florida Statute 388 PLUS a valid Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Stormwater, Erosion & Sedimentation Control Inspector license PLUS a current eight (8) hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification, in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.120 PLUS successful completion of all of the classes for any two (2) phases of the Brevard County Employee Development Program and receive a passing score on each phase examination PLUS a current annual performance evaluation score of 3.50 or greater with no performance evaluation factor rating of a 1 or 2. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. Experience in mosquito control and/or impoundment management is preferred. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Class B commercial driver's license with no airbrake restrictions and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must be able to pass a verbal proficiency test and effectively demonstrate the ability to safely operate a tractor with mowing implements PLUS a dump truck PLUS excavator PLUS one (1) of the following: front-end loader, backhoe, skid steer, or bulldozer. Must be physically capable at all times of properly wearing and utilizing all required personal protective equipment (PPE), which may include respiratory protection. Must be able to work overtime and extended hours during peak season, mosquito outbreaks, and wildfires, including irregular work schedules and nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed. EXTERNAL CANDIDATES ONLY: Must possess, or obtain within twelve (12) months of employment, a Florida Public Health Pest Control license, issued in accordance with Florida Statute 388, and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must possess or obtain, within twelve (12) months of employment, a valid Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Inspector license and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must possess or obtain, within twelve (12) months of employment, a current eight (8) hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification, in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.120. Must satisfactorily complete all of the Brevard County Mandatory Training for the Development of New Employees classes within nine (9) months of employment. Must successfully complete, within fifteen (15) months of employment, all of the classes for any two (2) phases of the Brevard County Employee Development Program and receive a passing score on both examinations.
