Position Type: Other/Coordinator/Coach (Instructional/Academics)Date Posted: 12/4/2024Location: Central OfficeAssistant Director for the Exceptional Children Department The focus of this position is to provide monitoring of compliance with federal, state and local policies and procedures, monitoring of instruction and specially designed instruction, training school and district staff in an effort to build capacity and retention, increase staff knowledge, improve student outcomes and decrease the number of complaints and increase the level of compliance throughout the district. Roles and Responsibilities Assist the EC Director with the operation of programs and instruction
  • Assume decision making responsibilities in the absence of the Director of Special Education
  • Assist in the direction and management of all EC programs, instruction and services to meet student needs.
  • Assists in the submission of documents and reports requested by DPI.
  • Assists in the supervision and evaluations to district EC staff.
  • Assists in the mediations and high priority IEP team meetings with DPI, parent advocates and or attorneys.
  • Assists in the supervision and evaluations of staff.
  • Monitoring and supports the oversight of specially designed instruction.
Monitoring of Local, State and Federal Policies and Procedures Safeguards
  • Keep abreast of developments in special education and make decision on staff and student issues regarding compliance and procedural safeguards. Conduct training for district and school level staff to implement procedures governing students with disabilities.
  • Ensure safety of students and compliance with ADA, State and Federal Regulations.
  • Interpret policies and procedures and provide recommendation and to district concerning issue of compliance.
  • Provide training and consultative services in the maintenance of confidentiality of student records.
  • Coordinate, prepare and present current procedural programmatic issues regarding special education.
Manage Due Process Procedures
  • Serve as liaison/consultant for the district in the participation of pre hearing, mediations and Due Process hearings.
  • Research the law as it applies to issues of Due Process and assist director and school staff in the implementation of results and recommendations.
