Additional positions may be filled from this recruitment package within 90 days from the closing date.We are seeking experienced individuals interested in joining our team who are able to operate power tools and heavy equipment (chain saws, trimming and chipping machines, dump truck, loader, backhoe, gradall, motor grader, tractor w/ attachments) and perform manual labor.As a Maintenance Operator, you will:•respond to emergency roadway and severe weather events to prepare and operate equipment for snow and ice removal and other types of hazardous road conditions•attend work zone training, prepare work zones and perform traffic control•demonstrate proper work site protection techniques: identify workplace safety hazards, make suggestions for improvement, wear proper personal protection equipment, maintain current knowledge of safety rules, regulations, laws and use equipment properly and safely•participate as a working team member performing manual labor including, clearing drainage, cutting brush, pot-hole patching, and fulfilling tasks required to complete road maintenance projects•complete pre-trip inspections, perform preventive maintenance and operate power tools and light to heavy equipment. The course is comprised of 160 hours, on average, of training. VDOT is willing to assist with your enrollment in and payment for the course upon your acceptance of an ELD Training Tuition tenure and repayment agreement.The successful candidate will be required to successfully complete the Intermediate Work Zone course, and obtain a DEQ Land Disturber Certification within 6 months of employment.VDOT is an emergency response agency.
