Job Description :

The Communications Manager leads our communications strategy, manages our brand presence, and ensures effective internal and external communication to ensure cohesive messaging and branding resulting in:

* Positive stakeholder understanding of the organization's vision and mission.

* Well informed, positively influenced, and motivated donors, shoppers, employees, and volunteers.

* Increased financial resources and community support for the organization.

Essential Duties:

* Create and execute comprehensive communication plans that align with Goodwill Northern Michigan's mission and goals.

* Produce high-quality content to support the organization's strategic plan including press releases, newsletters, printed collateral, social media, fundraising materials, in store marketing, hiring materials, and the organization's website.

* Communicate the narrative of Goodwill Northern Michigan, both internally and externally, through various channels, including social media, marketing materials, newsletters, reports, and presentations.

Key Responsibilities:

* Support the mission and vision of Goodwill Northern Michigan.

* Perform work in a safe manner observing all safety policies and procedures.

* Perform duties and interact with all team members, clients, donors, and customers in a professional and friendly manner.

* Respect the diversity of others including, but not limited to, those with cultural, ethnic, and gender differences, people experiencing homelessness, and persons with visible and non-visible disabilities.

* Develop and manage communication channels to keep both external stakeholders and internal staff informed and engaged.

* Build and maintain relationships with local and regional media outlets. Coordinate media requests and manage press events.

* Shoot and edit photos and video.

* Create content for social media channels in line with the organization's social media strategy.

* Respond to questions and reviews received online, on social media, and by phone/mail.

* Curate and maintain the organization's photo, video, image asset, mission moments, and lived experience stories digital libraries. Follow photo approval process for employee photos.

* Ensure consistent brand messaging and adherence to brand guidelines in all internal and external communications materials and platforms.

* Support and execute events for shoppers, volunteers, employees, and donors.

* Plan and execute communication strategies for events and special projects.

* Prepare and manage communication responses during crises or emergencies.

* Monitor and report on the effectiveness of communication strategies and campaigns. Use data to inform future strategies.

* Work closely with marketing, philanthropy, leadership team, and human resources to ensure cohesive messaging and branding across all platforms and initiatives.

* Leverage benefits of community and industry membership organizations, actively participating in networking events, seminars, and workshops to build community relationships and enhance brand visibility.

* Maintain a high degree of sensitivity regarding donor information and confidentiality in all communications.

* Other duties as assigned.

Education, Licenses, Certifications and Experience:

* Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field.

* 2-5 years' experience in a communications role, preferably in a nonprofit or social enterprise setting.

* Relevant degree and combination of experience will be considered.

* Track record of successfully producing high-quality materials, meeting deadlines and generating confidence from team members.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Proficient in Microsoft suite of products, including Microsoft Office (desktop and cloud-based), SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams platform.

* Proficient in digital marketing tools and platforms, including social media platforms, social media management tools, email marketing software, and analytics platforms.

* Ability to comfortably work in computer content management systems, such as Wordpress and Squarespace.

* Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign and Photoshop a plus. Ability to work with stakeholders across the organization, managing competing priorities.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills

* Creative and strategic thinker with strong organizational, conceptual, and analytical skills and an orientation to detail.

* Ability to make independent decisions in a changing environment.

* Ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously and follow up with accuracy and precision.

* Ability to track projects utilizing project management software (ie: Trello).

* Demonstrated interpersonal skills for developing and maintaining constructive, professional, cooperative working relationships with employees, donors, volunteers, and community stakeholders.

Physical Requirements:

* Works in well-lit office environment.

* Routinely sits, stands, walks throughout the workday.

* Routinely bends, stoops and stretches throughout the day.

* Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

* This position may occasionally require routine local travel and the ability to work a flexible schedule including early morning, evening, and weekend hours.
