Job Summary

A Transit Dispatcher will assist in Multimodal-Transportation services tasks by providing a high level of communication support utilizing computer software to handle and address calls for paratransit and fixed-route service by setting reservations, scheduling trips, maintaining driver manifests, monitors and maintains on-time performance, and work schedules. Speak English and Spanish fluently. This class works under general supervision.

Key Functions/Knowledge/Skills

* Slightly above average skills; knowledge of more complex work routines, rules, procedures, or operations; ability to operate higher-level specialized equipment

* Answers paratransit services multi-line phone, professionally with courtesy and concern, records essential information accurately and document information changes as necessary.

* Answers fixed-route services multi-line phone, professionally with courtesy and concern to respond to customer information or requests.

* Provide paratransit reservation services information in accordance to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and complies with Capacity Constraints Policies & Procedures as required.

* Maintains good working knowledge of Transit service areas, routes, maps, and computer programs.

* Assist Supervisor in preparing Paratransit and Fixed-Route schedules and the assignment of vehicles and transit operators. May be required to post assignments on bulletin boards.

* Performs a wide variety of clerical duties including data entry, typing, maintain accurate records, logs, files and prepares reports as required.

* Assists transit operators in the event of bus breakdown, route delays, road closures, or hazards; provide technical assistance to transit operators by troubleshooting problems.

* Monitors a two-way radio system, vehicle tracking software systems, running-time frequency, passenger loads, and operator's performance; makes corrections and suggestions as necessary.

* Assists Supervisor and/or may be required to report to accidents/incidents thoroughly investigate and complete required documentation.

* Recommends disciplinary action after investigating accidents, incidents, and customer complaints.

* May be required to attend operational meetings or training to stay updated regarding regulations, rules, policies, and procedures that impact transportation services.

* Responsible for receiving and changing-out paratransit farebox canisters as needed.

* Performs other related work as required.

Minimum Education & Experience

High school graduation or GED plus two (2) years of experience

Special Certifications & Licenses

Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and satisfactory motor vehicle record.

Medical Certificate (FMCSA).

Average judgment: must recognize and resolve problems such as type of procedure to apply, where to refer call or correspondence without specified destination, whether there is a problem/malfunction with a piece of equipment that needs attention, etc.; may involve freedom in selection of work methods among approved routines, setting of priorities, or sequencing of tasks within established schedules
