Occupational Summary:

The Assistant Women's Soccer Coach provides support and assistance with all aspects of the intercollegiate women's soccer program. This position will instruct student athletes in the rules and fundamentals of soccer while also working to develop the whole student both in and out of the classroom.

This position is responsible for cultivating and maintaining the institution's Catholic identity and its mission to empower graduates to transform society. Additionally, this position contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other faiths, cultures, or backgrounds.

Work Performed:

* Assist with the coaching and management of a competitive NCAA Division II soccer program, including scheduling and conducting regular practice sessions, developing line-ups and game strategies, etc. for both first team and reserve team.

* Assist with the recruiting and retention of qualified NCAA Division II student-athletes for first team and reserve team.

* Instruct student athletes in the areas of physical health, team concepts and safety, sometimes working with individual students on various game-day situations.

* Work with the Athletic Performance Coaches to develop an effective program of physical conditioning designed to improve overall athletic performance and avoid injuries.

* Encourage the development of psychological, social, and mental skills necessary for the student athletes to be successful in the classroom, on the field, and in future endeavors.

* Cooperate with Newman University personnel for efficient utilization of shared facilities.

* Demonstrate a working knowledge of and ability to comply with all NCAA Division II, MIAA, and institutional rules and regulations.

* Serve as a positive role model for the student athletes by exhibiting ethical and professional conduct at all times that is consistent with the mission of Newman University.

* Work with the Admissions Department to expedite the registration, admission, and other administrative processing of all student-athletes.

* Assist with monitoring the eligibility status of student athletes and mentoring student athletes in their academic progress to assure timely progress toward degree completion.

* Assist with operational planning and business office paperwork for both first team and reserve team.

* Provide support for the upkeep and maintenance of game and practice field grounds.

* Assist with planning and conducting soccer camps, clinics, or leagues as needed, in accordance with NCAA guidelines.

* Assist with team travel arrangements and transporting teams to competition for both first team and reserve team.

* Engage in fundraising, promotional, and public relations activities both on and off-campus, including booster club events and community service or engagement projects.

* Assist with submitting all NCAA Division II compliance documentation, in accordance with deadlines, as requested by the Associate AD/Compliance and the Director of Athletics.

* Complete all University-required trainings including Title IX and FERPA.

* Contribute to the overall success of the Athletics Department by performing all other duties as assigned and appropriate to the position.

Required Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills/Training:

* Bachelor's degree preferred; some college required.

* Must possess a valid driver's license and pass a motor vehicle check.

* Working knowledge of the rules and ability to teach critical skills required.

* Experience competing at a collegiate level is preferred.

* Ability to recruit and retain qualified student-athletes and to facilitate timely progress toward graduation.

* Effective oral and written communication skills.

* Thorough knowledge of NCAA Division II rules and regulations preferred and ability to pass the NCAA Division II recruiting test prior to beginning duties at Newman University. Certification must occur on an annual basis (Bylaw 11.5.1.1).

* Sound human relations skills in dealing with student-athletes, university personnel, and members of the off-campus community.

* Ability to objectively evaluate physical skills in the areas of physical potential and mental capability for intercollegiate athletics.

* Must be able to work evenings and weekends, as necessary.

* Must be able to be certified in First Aid and CPR, as required by NCAA rules.

* Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Physical Requirements:

* Position involves both inside sedentary work and outside work on the field in coaching and training situations with student athletes.

* Demonstration of appropriate skills may involve strained muscles or orthopedic related injuries from running, jumping, throwing, etc.

* Potential exposure to fertilizer, lawn chemicals, and weather conditions.

* Major hazardous conditions can result from the operations of field maintenance equipment including, but not limited to, tractors, drags, and mowers.

* Ability to lift up to 30lbs of equipment that may need transported.

Expectations:

As a member of the NCAA, individuals employed by or associated with a member institution to administer, conduct or coach intercollegiate athletics shall act with honesty and sportsmanship at all times so that the intercollegiate athletics as a whole, their institutions and they, as individuals, represent the honor and dignity of fair play and the generally recognized high standards associated with the wholesome competitive sports. (See Bylaw 10 for more specific ethical-conduct standards that apply to all institutional staff members and student-athletes.)

Institutional staff members found in violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures, including suspension of pay or termination of employment for significant or repetitive violations, whether such violations occurred at the certifying institution or during the individual's previous employment at another member institution. It shall be the responsibility of the head coach to promote an atmosphere of compliance within the program and to monitor the activities regarding compliance of all assistant coaches and other administrators within the program who report directly or indirectly to the head coach (Bylaw 11.1.2).
