POSITION SUMMARY: The Barge Inspector position will be assigned to the MRF and will report to the Barge Port Engineer (Inspection Supervisor). They will be responsible for the inspection and repair oversight of MPC's barge fleet. The Barge Inspector must be able to work with integrity, a self-starter who can work with little supervision, possess good communication skills both individually and as a team, and flexible to changes that may have impact to job scope (e.g., company growth, technological advancements, etc.). This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency and skill level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate's experience and qualifications. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Conducts all required US Coast Guard barge, Sub M vessel, SIRE, and company required inspections and maintains appropriate documentation. (Annual Inspections, Tank Barge Streamlined Inspection Program (TBSIP), Boat & Barge Blast/Paint inspections, On/Off Charter Surveys, Ship Inspection Report (SIRE) per the Oil Companies' International Marine Forum (OCIMF), Certificates of Inspection, Drydock Credits, Internal Structural Exams, etc.) Project management for barge related projects providing on-site consultation during new barge/boat construction. Maintains positive working relationships with the US Coast Guard, the American Bureau of Shipping, and other regulatory agencies. Recommends barges to be removed from service for repair while coordinating with Planning and Marine Logistics to minimize equipment downtime. Work an “On-call” schedule to assist with spill response coordination and acts as a first responder for Marine-related incidents. Interfaces with local departmental staff, MRF personnel, vendors, MPC/MPLX terminal, shipyards, outside towing companies, and contractors to ensure and promote efficient barge repair operations. Track barges and arrange travel to complete inspections outside of area. Provide SME support to MRF and MPC specialty projects. Represent MPC/HSM when dealing directly with the USCG, Shipyards, Fleet operators, Customers, Customer reps. and Surveyors. In addition to barge related inspections, this position also completes other miscellaneous inspections for Marine such as: Inspect and perform boat hull, MRF piping, MRF shore tank thickness readings and maintain appropriate documentation. Provides MPC/MPLX Terminals and Refining with dock inspections as required. MPC owned spar barge inspection and repairs. Performs third-party shipyard audits. Supports Marine Operations with vessel needs or minor repairs. Works with the Port Engineer to develop various operating procedures and repair/construction specifications for MPLX's barge/vessel fleet. Consults with MPC/MPLX terminals and refineries on dock and float new construction/repair projects and provide on-site consultation during construction or repairs. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent required. Valid driver's license required. 35% of travel required. Proficient computer skills required. Must be able to obtain a SIRE Cat. 3 accreditation as soon as possible upon hire, subject to available scheduling. 4 years Marine experience in welding, mechanical, and/or vessel experience is preferred.
