Payroll Tax and Compliance SpecialistHaugland Group, a privately-owned Long Island, New York-based civil infrastructure and energy construction company has an immediate opportunity for an experienced Payroll Tax and Compliance Specialist to join our team.The Payroll Tax and Compliance Specialist is responsible for overseeing payroll tax compliance and ensuring that all tax filings and regulations are adhered to in a timely and accurate manner. In this role, the specialist will work closely with ADP, the outsourced payroll provider, to ensure payroll tax returns are prepared correctly, filed on time, and in compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws. The Payroll Tax and Compliance Specialist will also be responsible for monitoring changes in tax regulations, handling payroll tax-related inquiries, and supporting audits.At Haugland, we understand that pushing the boundaries of what has been done is essential to develop the infrastructure of tomorrow. We are leaders in building what's next because we see the path to get there and we're setting a new standard of exceptional along the way.Let's build together!Key Functions* Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations, including income tax withholding, Social Security, Medicare, unemployment taxes, and other applicable taxes.* Coordinate with ADP to ensure accurate preparation, filing, and remittance of payroll tax returns on a timely basis.* Review and reconcile payroll tax filings prepared by ADP, ensuring accuracy and compliance.* Work with ADP to ensure accurate preparation and timely submission of tax returns (e.g., Form 941, 940, state-specific forms, etc.).* Oversee the preparation and distribution of year-end tax documents (Form W-2, 1099s, etc.) and ensure they are filed correctly with the IRS and state tax authorities.* Support the payroll and tax teams during internal and external audits by providing documentation, reconciliations, and explanations related to payroll taxes.* Monitor payroll tax liabilities and ensure the timely and accurate remittance of taxes to federal, state, and local tax agencies.* Assist in addressing any issues raised by the IRS, state, or local tax authorities and work with ADP to resolve discrepancies or errors in payroll tax filings.* Ensure that company payroll policies and procedures are aligned with current tax regulations and are implemented effectively.* Stay current on changes to tax laws at the federal, state, and local levels and communicate relevant updates to HR, payroll, and finance teams.* Employee Inquiries and Support.* Ensure that ADP's payroll system is accurately set up for tax calculations and reporting, and that any necessary updates are made to reflect changes in tax laws.* Collaborate with ADP and IT to implement improvements or resolve issues related to payroll tax compliance processes.* Provide support in maintaining accurate tax tables and ensuring tax rates are updated in accordance with federal, state, and local guidelines.Qualifications* Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).* 3-5 years of experience in payroll, tax compliance, or accounting, with a focus on payroll tax processing and reporting.* Strong knowledge of payroll tax laws, federal and state payroll tax regulations, and reporting requirements.* Ability to effectively work with ADP to manage payroll tax filings and ensure compliance.* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other payroll-related software, including* Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive payroll information.Why Haugland?Compensation range for this role is 90-115k.At Haugland Group, our benefits are designed to convey company culture and values which has employees at its forefront.*
