Program Description: From April through October, Envision Unlimited members* and volunteers pair up to ride the 606 Trail on Chicago's north side and Big Marsh Park trails on the south side. Buddy Biking offers fun, exercise, and the chance to make new friends for everyone participating. While some might take riding a bike for granted, for many of our members, cycling is a new or relatively rare experience that gives our members newfound confidence, greater mobility, and independence. Events include but are not limited to, Summer of Cycling events along the lakeshore, at the Velodrome, Bike the Drive, and a variety of other inclusive community locations including nursing homes.Job Description: Part-time Cycling Program Staff general responsibilities will include maintaining, coordinating, and transporting the bike fleet as well as supporting Envision Unlimited members and volunteers at weekly Buddy Biking and Envision Unlimited Summer of Cycling events. Experience or comfort with High School Outreach is a plus. Our ideal candidate has excellent people skills and a natural ability to bring people together. The schedule for this position is flexible but does involve some evenings and weekend hours.Responsibilities:
  • Some bike maintenance may be required and useful for the position.
  • Coordinate and transport bikes and equipment in an agency van throughout the Chicagoland area.
  • Support members & Volunteers in all cycling events.
  • Support members in taking out and putting away bikes.
  • Ensures everyone is wearing a helmet, ability to adjust saddle height on a person by person basis.
  • Trains and oversees volunteers on the use of tandem bicycles and other adaptive bicycles in the fleet.
  • Provide transportation assistance to individuals as needed, ensuring their safety and well-being during travel.
  • Participate in any applicable staff meetings, trainings, and professional development or activities to enhance skills and knowledge in supporting individuals with disabilities.
  • Adhere to all agency policies, regulations, and ethical standards governing the provision of services to individuals with disabilities.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.EDUCATION, SKILLS, and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Experienced bike rider
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in human services, special education, or related field preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and interact professionally with individuals, families, caregivers, and team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate, person-centered care and support to individuals with diverse needs and abilities.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Must pass background checks and drug screening as required by agency regulations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to meet the needs of individuals and the program.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
  • Successful completion of DSP, Rule 50 Training and DCFS reporting upon hire.
